Any advice on best/easiest reasonably priced universal remote to control:

    Sony TV
    Charter HD cable box
    Yamaha amp
    Magnavox DVD?

Would be nice to have Blu-Ray capacity for later as well.

what would you consider "resonably priced"?

The Logitech Harmony series remotes are generally well received for people that aren't generally technically inclined.

You can get different harmony series remotes for anywhere from ~$50 to ~$500...

Personally, I own a Harmony One, and love it so much I gave one to my parents. $150 I believe is what it is going for now...

    I was thinking $50 tops.

For that price, you may want to look into options from "Universal Remote", aka URC. They have many learning remotes in that price-range that should be able to do just about anything you need them to do.

I have no experience with their remotes, and only know what I've read on other people's impressions. They are well regarded, but their lower end models won't be as sophisticated as the Harmony line remotes.

I recommend increasing your budget to around $100 and get a Harmony 880 or 890 online. I got my 880 for $80 on eBay, refurbished with a factory warranty. Setup is easy and you never have to buy batteries again.

Logitech Harmony. Does everything and is easy and helps you troubleshoot when things go wrong. I highly recommend it.

FYI for anyone that is interested in a Harmony line remote.

Amazon is selling the Harmony One for an excellent $146.62.

If you choose to order one, I highly recommend choosing the amazon frustration free packaging.

This is a very nice remote, and this is the best price I've seen for a new harmony one.

It's higher priced but I own an 890 Pro and owned a 900, both highly recommended.
