Just got a call this morning that Gary Eisenberg was killed last night in his Enzo just down the hill from his house. He had apparently hit a tree and the car caught fire. I'm sure more people will have details later.

I really enjoyed the enthuseum and joy that Gary brought to other owners and friends. He was the ringleader of a group of Ferrari people that would get together in Carmel and get them to actually drive the cars. He will be very much missed.

Our prayers are with Mona and the kids.

oh my god.. he's a friend of mine and lives just up the road - near tonyc... oh my god.. how sad....

Lenai and I went to the last dinner in Carmel with him for the get together during the concorso just last month.

This is horrible news... he was a great guy and will be missed by us all.

Terrible news... Condolences to the family. There was a red Enzo at Laguna Seca yesterday for the ALMS races - I wonder if it was the same car?

Gary will be missed, he was a friend and a neighbor. I sent my condolences to his family through another friend. There were many cars outside his house so I did not want to go in.

I just returned from the crash site, it was just down the road from Gary's home. Another neighbor who saw the smoke and called 911 said that by the time the fire dept. trucks arrived the Enzo was pretty much melted. The top of the tree split off and a bunch of bark at the bottom of the tree is missing. The passenger side mirror was found about 60 feet away. No skid marks on the road that I could see. No one knows the cause of the accident yet. I am waiting to hear back from a close family friend as to what we can do for Gary's family.

Here is a public note that Gary's wife just sent me:

It is with deep saddness and an enormously heavy heart that I tell of the
passing of Gary Eisenberg. He died tragicly in a automobile crash last night. As
of this writing, I don't know the particulars. No one else was involved in the
crash. The car is demolished to cinders.

Gary LOVED driving and he LOVED his Ferrari's more than anyone can imagine.
He had a wonderful day at the track watching all the car racing. We were
suppose to meet for dinner with friends and I got a call from the Coroner's Office
telling me of the accident just around 7:15 PM. That is all I know.

Tonight we must all say a prayer for our Intergalatic
Commander.......................they broke the mold when they made him. I will be forever lost
without him and no one can ever take his place in my heart.

Please call me if you want to but as I said right now I have no more
information than what I wrote here in this e-mail.

    Mona

It is a very sad day. Gary was a great guy.

I went by the crash site earlier today. While I was there, a couple who was first upon the scene returned. They say they saw black smoke and raced up the hill. When they got there, the car was engulfed in flames. They said that it appeared that Gary had hit the tree head-on and then the rear of the car swung out to the side. The tree had been hit very hard, snapping the top off from the impact. There were no skid marks and they saw no tire tracks on the dirt, only a small mark by the lip of the curb.

People have started putting flowers by the base of the tree. In the hour that I was there, several family and some friends had stopped by. All were shocked at what had happened. Many of us drive up and down that hill -- you just don't expect this.

I never got the chance to meet Gary but I had heard of his enthusiasm for Ferrari. This is very tragic news. We all need to remember how wonderful and fast these cars are, but we cannot change the laws of physics. My condolences to Gary's family. Dan
