Maybe he is looking for some inside info on cars for sale besides the cars listed on ebay?

    Hi guys,

Didn't see any on e-bay of craigslist ... found a couple googling but they were priced at 40-50k! I think that is crazy money for one of them.

    What do you think?

Are you a broker? A normal Ferrari shopper? Where, and by any condition you are
opening up a wide potential market for cars. There was a pretty battered 400 shell
on ebay last week. There is discussion of that in this sub-forum.

Micheal Sheehan just sent an email about an almost $50k 400i that he is brokering.

That is the car I would buy if wife wrath were not a potential issue today.

Never used it before, but jaxed.com appears to search may craigslists from all over.

The 400 market is not widely traded as there just not a huge number of cars and market
prices vary considerbly over the decade I have been it it.

I'm just a normal shopper ... actually helping a buddy try to find one. He is only looking to spend around 15k... Sheehans is nice but we all feel over priced when there are Modenas for 10-20k more ....

That is going to be one expensive Ferrari!
Unless your friend wants static art or parts.

Exactly. A good running 400i automatic that is mechanically prime and reliable to use will cost a minimum of $30K after purchase price plus whatever is needed to take care of the deferred maintenance items. Excellent examples with top cosmetics and new tires or a 5 speed will cost more.

You can buy one already done or you can buy a neglected one and fix it up but the price will end up about the same either way if you want a 400 or 400i that actually is reliable and drives the way it was intended. Even then, as Full Garage found out, even one that is "already done" will still need something even if it is just for personal preference or for peace of mind.

It just boils down to whether you want to write one check or a bunch of checks to end up at the same place.

Do also keep in mind that these cars are all of about the same age and are consequently somewhat crotchety. There is always something to fix.
But then, that is why owning one is a hobby and the rewards of ownership are wonderful.
