Admiral- Learn something new every day. I did not know the F-8 Crusader was developed by the French navy.
Dear Terry, I suspect that Vought would be surprised to hear that. Apparently the French bought some as well. Best regards, Robert
Admiral- Affirmative, they did fly them off the Charles De Gaulle for quite a while and had the last operational F-8E unit when they retired them in 1999. Rafale Ms now.
Went there about 10 years ago. The guy was a total gearhead. The Library of the old chateux had old motorcycles and parts all over it. Other parts had his collection of race cars, lots of Abarth's. Its the type of life "art" many of us would collect is we had the space time and means. Well worth the visit.
"Although the planes are kept outside in all weathers, the elements do not damage them as they are made from aluminium, Pont said."... Not so sure about that... "In combat over Korea, the Soviet made Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-15 was successful as a straight-winged jet day fighter"... Oops.
Aluminum doesn't rust, it just disappears into a powder, unless it is painted with a thick coat of some kind of paint and even then it will attempt to return to its source..
