    F1 drivers still needed to use a shifter and clutch pedal? None of the flappy paddle stuff that shifts in milliseconds.

    I wonder how competitive today's top drivers would be?

    It would be the same crew up front...
    And of course it would be ideal if this was the case - would be near the top of my list if I were writing the regs.

    Incidentally, they say Michele Alboreto was one the most beautiful 'gear changers' of all time - anyone see or hear him in person?

    They would be just as competitive as those in the past if they would have the same practice...

    Yep. Though a larger amount of unforced errors (or forced) could be made. And before people say F1 would go backwards from technology...we don't have traction control, abs, active suspension or stability control etc, either.
