Wiesmann GT.

The success of the Roadster concept is based on a successful synthesis of classic design and state-of-the-art engineering. This encouraged Friedhelm and Martin Wiesmann to develop a new, similarly fascinating, sports car on the basis of the Roadster, the Wiesmann GT.

The two-seater coupé celebrated its premiere as a production vehicle at the IAA 2005 in Frankfurt, to be acclaimed by the motoring experts.

Despite the suggestions of a classic design as a further development of the Wiesmann-Roadster it was a completely new car which was created. Basic data were gained from the Wiesmann Racing GT, which was tested as a experimental vehicle under extreme conditions during the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring in 2002.

Since it was clear from the outset that this vehicle would not only be optically different, but based on different fundamental data, from the Roadster, there was plenty of room for manoeuvre in the development. Starting point for considerations was the engine. This was to represent a new sparkle, come what might.

Since, as it is well known, displacement can only be replaced by one thing, and that is more displacement, thoughts quickly made friends with the idea of using a BMW V8 engine of 4.8 litres capacity. This made a larger engine compartment than the Roadster's essential, which consequently meant that all the dimensions of the Wiesmann GT would have to be oriented towards that.

Thus, the GT grew in all directions, compared with the Roadster: it was three centimetres higher, eleven wider, and no less than 37 longer. To take account of the rather higher fuel consumption of the larger engine, 10 litres additional fuel tank volume was provided, at 70 litres, to guarantee adequate range on longer journeys.

The challenge now facing the engineers was to convert the engine's output into vehicle dynamics. Normally, a larger vehicle also weighs more, which in turn adversely affects the performance figures. This was avoided by designing an aluminium monocoque, familiar from the racing scene. In this way, the increase in weight was kept within bounds, and at 70 kg was extremely modest for a car of this size. The bodywork is of lightweight, high-quality, fibreglass-reinforced compound material and in the familiar manner is also fabricated in the factory.

The xenon headlights ensure good visibility in darkness, and the rear lights, which consist of LEDs, not only give a clear signal but are also unmistakable as the hallmark of the Wiesmann GT even at night.

With a power-to-weight ratio of 3.41 kg/HP the Wiesmann GT is to be found in the leading group of sports cars. The low centre of gravity, the perfectly-tuned running gear combined with the bullish torque delivered by the engine, the optimum seating position for driver and passenger ensure unalloyed driving enjoyment.

The Wiesmann GT is an individual sports car with a classic design, which fits perfectly in the automotive landscape and which will capture its own niche.

I still prefer the Roadster version more. Reminds me of when Jags were good. Plus, the GT needs TEN brake lights, not four

 

I drove the car last mouth... It's är really great car. Sounds amazing. It's was a litle bit tricky to drive in the beginning but after some miles when ypu learn the gearbox, clutch and so you enjoy it really mutch. I floor it sometimes just to hear the engine. Sounds so good. Dont remember but think it was about 350hp in it and that sounds not that mutch for that type of car today but it accerlerate really great. Approx like an Ferrari 360.

 

Brilliant car, I'm quite a Wiesmann fan myself.
V10 version is coming in summer '07.

Weisman was on display at Top Marques this year in Monaco. Has a lot of style and character. They also had a test car, and from what I was told its incredibly fast ride as well. I didn't ask for a ride since I was getting my hair blown back in the Invicta!

 

i know " if i have to ask i probably cant afford it " but whats the tag on one of those things and do you guys think this will be "allowed" in the US market...amazing machine i love the styling and sophistication of it

 

That is one beautiful, originally designed car.

 

It's really fast... Faster then its looks.

Great video, thanks. I got to sit in a GT with the same color/interior/carbonfibre dashboard once . I wonder if it was the same car (it was a factory testcar).

 

Car sounds pretty good. I wish the NA market got all the cool toys.

There was a white one at Top Marques Monaco. It was the first GT I saw in real life that wasn't "Lavagrau" (darkgrey). The car looks absolutely gorgeous in white!.

Thats probably the car i test... the boss for wiesmann was here in sweden witch to cars... one GT and one roadster. the roadster is that one clarksson also test on top gear.

 

There's a white/maroon roadster at the Belgian Wiesmann dealer (two blocks away from me). It's the same car that was used for testdrives in Monaco, I wonder if it was the same car Clarkson tested. Do you happen to know the name of the man from Wiesmann you talk about?

edit: was it the man standing on the right in this picture? I've met him a few times, friendly man.

 

No that not the man... He i talking about was marketing boss or something like that. He was about 50 years old quite big. German ofcourse. Very nice guy. He wanted feedback about the car so i talk quite mutch witch him after the testrun.
Ahh thats bad that i forgot my camera that day... But is was really wet and rainy... Some snow to so it was dificult to drive. First i took it out on a twisty road but discover fast that it was i bad idea that day so i turn around and went down to the highway.

 

The price is 1.1 million swedish krones witch taxes... that about $115 000 witchout taxes. I don't think the is worth it. Is many batter cars for that money. I sat like i told the man from wiesmann. If i had that mutch money that i can buy the car witchout any priorties then i will buy for the good sound and looking.

 

Value wise there probably is a better deal for $115k, but I would rather have a unique car vs example: a Porsche Turbo in its price range. It looks like a very impressive car.
