Anyone here use it, on either side (ride selling or as passenger)? looks like an interesting concept...ride sharing in the sky. Travel and Fly with ZigAir to over 5,000 US airports.
It lists the process as 3 simple (sounding) steps.. Search,Book,Fly.. but then adds the caveat "All seats must be sold to take off"... hasn't this "little" detail stopped all such attempts before? .. then you're back to the same old.. commercial or charter to actually get where you want WHEN you want.
what defines "all seats must be sold to take off" when does weight and balance vs trip kick in...don't know of many GA planes that can take full fuel and fill all the seats... ZigAir is more of a joke than functioning charter booking company, appealing to someone that doesn't have a clue about general aviation
yeah after digging around for a while it doesn't really make sense; more like a craigslist for air charter services than anything else. oh well.
What I envisioned was a marketplace where general aviation owners would post planned flights with empty seats, and travelers could pick them up. All day long, business jets fly out of Trenton, Morristown and Teterboro for Boston, DC, Chicago. I'm on the board of a company with planes and every time I fly I look around at the empty seats and think about the hours I've wasted in TSA lines. Seems like a capacity load-leveling market opportunity. Agree Zigair will never work if there is a chance the flight won't depart, that is antithetical to business travel. But an awful lot of planes fly regular-ish schedules while half empty.
