Has anyone experienced this? While water is a normal byproduct of the combustion cycle, water mixed with this black residue would lead me to believe the engine is running rich, way too rich, and this sooty material is a byproduct of that. After a long drive there is black gunk all over the paint and it runs down underneath leaving black streaks. They come off with some detail spray, that's not the problem. It occurs on both sets of exhaust tips so it's both banks. Running rich is not as dangerous as running too lean (which causes cylinder head temperature to rise, it's the way we lean an aircraft engine at altitude) but it may be indicative of another problem. that's normal. No matter how lean you run your engine, if you hook up a gas analyzer, there will be carbon hydrates ( unburnt fuel)., thus the soots you see if you run the car long enough.
Yes, normal and very annoying. Try to adjust your exhaust so the tips protrude enough so the condensate doesn’t drip on your bodywork. It has acid in it, so stains are difficult if not impossible to remove. Sent from my iPad using FerrariChat
My RAM truck does it as well, not big deal. Grab some Mothers aluminum cleaner and every week or so give it a good cleaning or wipe down after every drive. Usually, the most damage is done during warm up when condensation appears on the tips.
