in the next 3 months i will be buying a 360 hard top. before i buy i would like to know if some years are better than others, the up keep on the car, what to look out for when buying a used one ect...
any and all comemts are apreciated, i just want to get a little education on the car before i buy it.

also i cannot decide wether to get the tiptronic or the 6-speed.
and how about euro or american?
    thanks in advance,

Well, for starters, the F1 gearbox is nothing like a tiptronic. It is the same gearbox as the manual, just operated electro-hydraulically. There has been endless discussion on the board comparing the two, so a little search of previous threads may be in order. If it were me, and the car was out of warranty or close to it, I'd stick to the manual gearbox, since any problems with the F1 are bound to be expensive. The newer the car, the better the F1 works, by most reports.

I don't know of any issues with early 360s in general terms, they all seem pretty sound. The Euro cars will always be worth less, but if you can buy it right, it may pay off.

Maintainence will be expensive for any 360 out of warranty, especially if you get into a cam belt change.

Go F1. If you're really into driving the car agressively there is no comparison.

In buying a used 360 I would want to check the following:

    1) Full service history by either main dealer or well known Ferrari specialist
    2) Clutch changed every 15k miles or so
    3) Cambelt changed every 15k miles or so
    4) Look at the paint at the front as most 360's need to be repainted at the front and it needs to be done well (check the mirrors too)
    5) No crash history (check alignment of hoods etc)
    6) Check wear of tyres, there should be no odd signs of wear between left and right sides of the car
    7) Get some tread left on the tyres as a new set within a few k's will cost you a bit

For my money I'd also get one less than two years old or more than 3 as the depreciation (here in Europe) for the 3rd year seems to be the worst

I've heard of some either minor problems - clutch thrust bearings not alligning, clutch master cylinder failure but nothing really major. The car is basically strong and reliable and will give you miles of fun and enjoyable driving.

Oh, and if you like the F1 get that but early ones had some problems get hot and the clutch will not last quite so long.

First off, welcome to the forum. I had an 01 360 F1 and now I have an 04 spider gear shift car. For me the gear shift was a beeter choice in the 360, but I would certainly try and find a dealer that has both and take sometime to drive both and decide for yourself. I think you need to give the F1 some seat time if you have never driven one before, learning curve is short but it still exists. By the way, how far from a dealer are you?

thanks for all of the reply's

i need to go test drive the car, i have never owned a ferrari before so i dont even know if i will like it. i think that i will go with a silver on black 2001-2003 euro or american(matters on price diff.) and iam going to test drive the f1, i have nbever owned a f1 gearbox car and iam looking foward to driving one. why is it that the clutch only lasts 15k miles?
is that a big problem with these cars? when i buy it, is it worth changing the clutch? how long do they typically last?

    thanks,

    mark

What?? I wouldn't touch a car that had the clutch changed every 15K miles or so. That's not a preventative maintenance item like a cambelt... and the clutch should last a lot longer than that unless there is a problem with either driver or car.

As long as it hasn't broken, I don't care how often they change it. I only care how long since they last changed it for determining how soon I'll want to change it.

Stongard or similar is a huge win there! If you do repaint the nose, consider following with some Stongard.

Perhaps I should be more accurate - since you don't know how a car has been driven I would want to see the clutch having been changed no more than 15k miles ago , perhaps it's me being cautious

thanks guys, before i buy the car i will take it to a out side ferrari mechanic to see what condition the car is in.
what is the difference between the euro and american?

which one is better and why?what sould the price difference be for the exact same car (one in euro) on in american.

    thanks for all the help!
