I am driving my 1964 330GT across the country (from NYC) and I need a Portland mechanic as I am ending up in Portland. I thought I would leave the car there for a week and have the oil changed and give it a general going over. Question is, any recommendations for a competent shop that will know about this era Ferrari? Thank you. Yale

A very well thought of F-specialist is Dick Guthrie, 503-232-5401. He's in an unmarked building at 1015 SE Main in Portland. Your car will be in good company, as there is usually a half dozen or so other red cars in there in various states of disassembly. Very reasonably priced. He does everything from routine service to complete rebuilds, and has extensive experience with the older cars. Tell him Hans sent you.

Craig at the Jag Shop also does good work on older Ferraris. I have seen a 330GT in there more than once, and he has had my 365GT for far too long-- hopefully I will get it back next week!

Craig used to work for Ron Tonkin, as did some of his guys, and he has a lot of Ferrari experience.

When are you going to be in town? We should have some sort of 2+2 get-together.

    Hey folks,

Thanks or the suggestions and yes it would be great to get together when I am in town and have the Atlantic meet the Pacific Ferraris. Here are some names I got off of the Ferrari rolodex (I made a little book for myself as support possibilities for the cross country trip), and I wonder if anyone can speak for these folks. ATD was recommended by the folks of Tom Yang's list www.Tomyang.net do you guys know them? They also recomend Craig at the Jag shop so I should probably just call him and tell him that I would like to have him check out the car at the end of August.

And also from Tom Yang list is this:
Finally, there is Ron Tonkin, the dealer. The good thing about them is that Ron Tonkin, the owner, has a huge collection of vintage Ferraris and is always having the dealership work on them, so they have quite a bit of vintage experience. The bad news is that they have had difficulty keeping techs, so you never know.

    Thanks,

    Yale
