i have personal experience with the 996 and a good friend has aaa 2002 cl500 and i driven it a bit...two very different cars, the mb is more luxury and a heavy cruiser, the 911 is not as refined but much more sport and light and nimble...it depends what you want...if you do mostly highway miles , then the mb will shine, it is back roads and twisties, then the 911...really is apples and oranges....

Def two different cars... They have the same HP but the cl500 will feel VERY slow to you compared to the 911... The cl500 will get you more 'looks' if you like attention; there are just so few of them out there...

In my garage is a 2002 CL500 the car started out my dad's and then it became my moms second car she also drives a G500. But so far in 23k miles the car has been problem free (knock on wood). The car is great to drive with all the windows down and the sunroof open. The car will cruise all day long. It is no race car though.

If your only concern is the maintenance costs don't worry.....they'll cost the same (more or less) to repair while under warranty.

Once out of warranty the Porsche should have less exposure based on it's lack of electronic gizmo's relative to the MB.....but I wouldn't say so myself.

i think considering i will have the car for like 2 years my biggest concern is maintenance cost?

i know the porsche and the cl500 is expensive but.....
i think the cl500 would be alot more
    any thoughts????

    911.

    Check if the CL500 was a buy-back...

911 would be my personal choice over the CL500 (which is also a nice car)

Modern day 911s are no longer "bulletproof" engineering marvels. Porsche refuses to fix the RMS problem it has known about for years.

Just on engineering integrity grounds, I'd disqualify the 911.
