Have any of you used a claybar on their paintwork? I spent a chunk of last wednesday claybar-ing my paintwork, and I'm quite gobsmacked at the subsequent smoothness of my paint. The clay seemed to pull of a slight quantity of dark red deposits, but it was surprising how clean the clay was afterwards. I can't seem to find out how it works. It is clearly not meant to be an abrasive. Any thoughts?
A up Stig The clay bar is only necessary if when you rub your hand over the paintwork you can feel tiny bumps which are deposits of all kinds of road and element rubbish.I If your paintwork is smooth already and you regularly wax and polish you shouldnt need the clay bar. Thats what i think anyway.... PS Its time you stood up and got counted as a Red Trouser wearer.....
I clay-bared my car recently but it didn't really make that much difference as it was already lovely and shiny anyway. What clay apparently does do though is remove all the old layers of polish - so is useful if you want to re-apply your wax from scratch.
I disagree, it does not remove polish but the residue from the road and the elements such as tree sap etc. it only removes those tiny bumps of crap...
If you clay-bar your car with the Zymol system you do it again with H D Clense before applying the first coat of polish this get all the old silicone and crap off RAY360M
I washed the car, the clayed, then washed again, then used a paint cleaner, followed by a glaze layer to remove swirls, and finally topped it off with carnuba (all Mothers products). The paint was quite rough beforehand, but now it is as smooth as a kashmir codpiece....
hail the Master has Spoken, many thanks Ray as didnt know what a clay-bar was other than an old pot that was thrown on a wheel, went wrong and turned into a bar ?? ..lol
Very good Joe i will dig some proper Wiltshire clay up next time we have the JCB out and send it over . RAY360M
