I seem to have suffered failure of the roof latch on my 1990 Mondial-t cab described in a prior thread initiated by Ron Frohock below. I have purchased his toggles but now I need the other piece of the assembly referred to as the sliding part with the 'ears" that break off. If anyone has any, or knows where to direct me to obtain one, I would appreciate your input.

Fchatter Gianluca, http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/member.php?u=432 , makes them. Milled by hand from solid steel. Won't break under any circumstances...

I got a set from him, very nice but still haven't installed them, my roof has only gone up once since August.

+ I bought Ron's toggles and Luca's sliders. Now I no longer worry about broken top latches and all that non sense.

    All the best.

I have some that my machininst buddy made. We lengthened the tongue on them that makes it un-necessary (on my car anyway) to adjust them each time the top is operated.

Thank you. I will pm Westyguy about purchasing 1 or 2 of the pieces that he still has. Sounds like it will more than solve my current problem. Yipee!

I think we have talked about this before but does anyone actually use the seatbelt holders near the roof latches?
    Very strange location and setup...

I find that my roof shrinks over the summer. If I put it up a few times during the summer it is best.
You need to take it slow. It's best to screw the sliding mechanisms as far forward to engage them properly and then make the final adjustment.
It also helps to have someone push gently on the B pillar. Watch Dave's fantastic video. It's very well done.
    Practice makes perfect.

I also had to remake that support arm, it was a cheap casting.
I remade mine from extruded stock, bent it into shape around a form, drilled all of the appropriate holes and it's better than the original.
Gave it a shot od black tremclad and it looks great!

I agree with Ron, when putting up the roof, always slacken the tension screws on both sides then clip them in and readjust each side.

    Hey Mario
I actually make the arms that your speaking of. I call them toggles and I sell them for $172.00 shipped and they don't fail.
    Thanks.

Just installed the roof latch toggle part made by Ron Frohock on my '91 Mondial Cabriolet.
Very high quality, much less expensive than the lower quality factory piece. Springs and clips require careful installation, but Ron supplies extra C-clips in case one jumps out of your hand never to be found again. Well done, highly recommend it if you have this problem, which seems inevitable if you have a Cab.

    Ron is a class act.

We were loading the mondi onto the trailer for the trek to Palooza and putting the top on when one of the roof latches broke. Along the drive, we called Ron to order a set of latches. We asked him to ship them to our daughter who happens to be in MA and was going to meet us in PA. He hand delivered them to her to ensure that we would get them for Palooza. That is an example of what a great community the mondi owners are. We are so glad that are kids will get a chance to meet people like Ron and other f-chatters such as Goodmans who have opened their home to the motley crew of robogeeks:).

Can't wait to install them and will ordering the vents as well. Gianluca, I need to order the sliders.

That's great. You might have to wait for GianLuca, he's still in Italy at the moment until mid July. Ron may know another person who makes the sliders if I remember correctly.
Yep, the top latches can and will break, I broke mine last year when trying to put it up in the T-storm rain in the dark. DavebDave has a great video of how to properly do the top that a cabrio owner must see.
(2 step process so it doesn't break on you).

Hope to meet you at Palooza.

Thanks for the kind words. It was my pleasure to deliver them and it was very nice to meet your daughter. She is fortunate to be studying at such a great school.

Wow, I just realized it has been over a year and a half since we last posted to this thread. After Mondipalooza we got very busy and everything Ferrari related had to be put aside, so this repair totally fell by the wayside, we just always drove the car with the top down here in Miami. But as some of you know I recently got back into the groove and have been working on the B pillars, then I remembered that we never repaired the latches, so we finally got around to ordering new sliders from Gianluca, they arrived this week, and they are great. Both Ron’s latches (the “u” part), and Gianluca’s sliders are very well done, and they are made of steel alloy, far better than the originals, which were made out of crappy, brittle, stuff.

    Thanks Ron and Gianluca.
