Once again trying to find a proper Mondial T that my wife can drive. The attached E-Bay car is in Texas although it appears that she's been all around the country. Do any of you good guys know this car? The dealer has absolutely NO service records and that scares me. Thank you in advance! Vin#: ZFFFC33A4K0082357

I've been eyeing this myself - it looks fantastic. DO a PPI - it will come up with X price to bring it back to shape..multiply that by 1.5X to 2X (PPIs never catch everything) - subtract that from 30K and make that your offer price - hopefully seller agrees it's a fair price and you're done.

    :)

    Cheers

As Paul said, a PPI is the way to go. It appears this car is in the Fort Worth area so you may want to post in the Texas forum to find a good PPI mechanic.

Looks like a nice car. Good luck.

    Hi All

New poster here. I have been lurking on this forum for a while. I've been searching for a Mondial for a couple of months.

I went to VROOM (the dealer) to look at this car 2 weeks ago. I wasn't really in the market for a T. I was looking for a QV or 3.2, so it was more of a "just curious" visit.

    Here's what I learned/saw:

    1. They seem to have a good amount of service records, including the date of the last belt changes (2011/2012 - I think).
    2. The car seems to be in good shape. There was some minor rust spots in the channels where the engine deck lid and the truck lid close.
    3. The top appeared to be brand new.
    4. The car started right up and idled with no problems. It was a very cold/wet day when I looked, so I didn't drive it (again - wasn't really interested in a T).
    5. Some small issues - the fuel filler door would not stay shut. it appears that the servo mechanism is non-functional.
    6. Toolkit and Flat fix kit are there.
    7. Some small dings here and there. Some small paint touchups here and there.
    8. Those spots on the drivers seats that you see in the pics, are actually there on the seat. They appear to be either stains, or some issue from what I think is a redye.

The only real issue I had with the car, is that it appears that the seats had been redyed with a spray application. There was overspray in the interior (look at the shot that shows the E-Brake lever).

Also, the Autocheck report shows some type of issue with the title/odometer. To be honest, I didn't understand it.

Anyway, take this with a grain of salt as I wasn't really in the market for a T. I did end up purchasing an 85 QV Coupe last week.

I have to say this. You guys on this forum are a great resource. Over the past 6-9 months of my search, I learned a huge amount about these cars, ownership, maintenance, fun, joy of ownership. It really made the search and purchase decision much easier for me. So... A HUGE THANKS!

I'll post pictures when my car is delivered.

Great info. It sounds like you're here in Texas. I can't wait to see pics of your QV Coupe. I'm also in Texas (Austin) and am on the search for a QV (or preferably 3.2) Coupe as well. I'd love to hear the details of your incoming Mondial.

    Cheers,

Congrats Sid, I happen to know which Mondial you purchased, lovely example!! Post pics when it arrives!! I was also looking at it until I had an opportunity to buy back one of mine from 2007, so I did, an 83 coupe. I'll post photos when I get it also.

    Hi Everyone

    Thanks for the kind words.

    @2cam - Yep. I'm in Texas. Plano

@Scaledetails - Thanks for the nice words about the car. Although I'm probably biased, I also think it's a lovely example. The condition, history, and obvious care that the previous owner took, really sold me on the car. Your comment about getting back a car that you let go started me thinking. I'm about to sell one of my other cars (a 1967 VW KG Convertible). I started wondering how I'm going to feel once it's gone. Maybe it's not such as good idea to let it go. On the other hand, I've started hearing comments from family about car hoarding! Counting the Mondial, we have 4 toys (67 VW KG vert, 74 VW KG coupe, 85 MB 300D).

Although I haven't received the car yet, I'll try to attach a pic from the dealer that I purchased it from.

Thanks again for all the nice words

    Sid

    Very nice!

BTW, you're practically in the same neighborhood as Jeremy (Cockrill).

His car is the same color, no?

Sounds like this Mondial is going to the right owner, that's fantastic. I was almost feeling bad about not getting that car but it is the perfect situation for it, congrats again.
Nothing wrong with 4 cars! I personally will stop at 7, one for each day of the week, then I would call it "hoarding" ;)
    Looking forward to more pics!!
