Ferrari has quietly announced plans to unveil a new Prancing Horse on September 17. “Quietly” because the event is listed on a special section of the company’s website reserved exclusively for owners. Since we don’t have a product from Maranello in the Motor1.com garage, we’re not allowed to access the private area of the website. The silver lining is that Ferrari has posted the adjacent teaser image and has also revealed the car’s codename: F176.
There’s not much to go by at this point, so with your permission, we’re going to speculate. The vague silhouette of the new Ferrari appears to be showing a car with an extremely small windshield, sort of reminding us of the Dallara Stradale in the speedster flavor. We’ve heard through the grapevine the special Ferrari is going to be based on the 812 Superfast and will go by the official name of 812 Monza.

It’s unclear at this point whether there will be any powertrain upgrades over the regular 812 Superfast, which uses a naturally aspirated 6.5-liter V12 engine pushing out 788 horsepower and 530 pound-feet (718 Newton-meters) of torque. The standard car needs just 2.9 seconds until 62 mph (100 kph) and will continue to accelerate until 211 mph (340 kph).
The 812 Monza or whatever it will be called will follow the stunning J50 introduced at the end of 2017. Based on the 488 Spider, the latest special Ferrari was created to celebrate 50 years of Ferrari Japan and was produced in just 10 examples. That one too lacked a roof, but it did have a two-piece carbon fiber targa top stored behind the seats. One other thing the two cars might have in common is extremely limited availability, and we won’t be too surprised if the 812 Monza has long been sold out.
We won’t have to wait until September 17 to see a roofless Ferrari as we believe the droptop 488 Pista is going to be unveiled in the second half of this month at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
