Porche cayman mules testing a rumored GT4 varaint. Seems like it may have a 400hp twin turbo flat 4. Some wish for a slightly detuned Gt3 motor, we shoudl be so lucky. Hopefully its stick too wth better steering like the Gt3, maybe a porche worth buying after the current drought.

Apparently the Cayman is the slowests selling car they make, so a hi po version may do it some good and be worth the risk for porche, ie the risk of seeming better than a 991.

Frankly if it slower on paper than a 991 GT3 rs but the reall thing on track and elsewhere, while being tactile like a 997.2 gt3 the porche brand may reemerge with cred amongst the core entusiast base. One can hope.

The Cayman is generally considered Porsche's purest driver's car. Yet it is their worst seller. Any doubts why they are expanding the SUV line?

A hi-po 981 might be a good idea but I'll bet it crowds 100K and, unless they fix the numb steering and other issues, I'm not interested. I tried two 981s and they did not impress. Felt like luxo barges compared to 987s, so I bought a used R instead.

Will the GT4 be more aggressive and more faster that the R model? I saw some pics and the rear spoiler is bigger that R's.

The R model was a 2012 987 model only. Any 981 will be different of course.

bingo :) there just aren't that many purists out there.

I do think the GT4 could be interesting but it will probably be engineered to be slower than a 991 C2S, so as to not give the GT3 even a hint of a run for its money.

Yeah the cayman is the purists car, from a chassis perpective. Its then bogged down with a relatively limp motor, subpar steering, weight and confort style supension.

Maybe the GT4 is to the cayman what the Gt3 is to the 991. Maybe cayman sales are so slow thye can take the risk of doing a proper job, because the gowth wont rob 991 sales anyway.

Given that the new GT3 has become a bloated pdk aws car, maybe there is room now in the cayman line for a true purist machine like the late lamented 997gt3, just a cayman version and with manual it will def be slower on paper than a 991 GT3.

Over at rennlist people are hoping the cayman Gt4 has the old metger engine tick and great steering with a sub 3000lbs weight.

My guess is the weight may go below 3000lbs, steering is fixable with 991 Gt3 sofware.
Suspension is easy to do. So will it offer a stick, and will it be apukka hi po track motor, you know titanium conrods etc. Or will it be a turbo 4 with pdk only, in which case as fast on paper as it will be why bother.

What the pursit want, what the people at rennlist want is a fast tactile and durable car. No PDK only, no aws to add weight and break, something lighter than 991. What is wanted is a newer 997.2 gt3, maybe the cayman Gt4 will be it. If it is I am a buyer.

I have a 981 Cayman S on order... with a manual transmission, no less!

Personally, I think the Cayman is brilliant, just as it is. I debated about buying a straight one compared with an "S" because really, for most driving the normal Cayman has plenty of power--- and it's fun to row the gearbox and keep the engine up in that 4,000 RPM range and above. However, in the end I went with the S because, well, more power is nice to have.
