dont know if im explaining this properly but the cup shaped rubber gasket aroung the outside of the rear drive shaft is torn. this is just in board of the brake rotor. there is another one further inside that still seems ok. what should be done and about how much should it cost by independent shop? thanks

The boot will have to be changed(outer)
But it might be like the 355, which you need to take apart from the inside boot first to get to the outside boot.

    Parts??
labor, about 3 to 4 hours???
reason, suspension has to be moved(partially disassembled)

Don't delay repair too long. Lack of CV joint lube, and resulting wear will require the entire half-shaft (axle) to be replaced rather than just the boot.

Yes, 348 outer CV is integral with the stub axle, and requires removal of inboard CV for access to outer boot.

    Best regards,

There is a racing part available through Porsche suppliers that fits perfectly, and is made of higher quality materials (blue silicone) that last longer than the Ferrari replacements, takes more heat, and costs less.

Actually it is not a Porsche part. The Porsche boot is virtually identical to the Ferrari boot as they are both made by Lobro. Lobro is also the maker of the CV joint. The boot Mitch is referring too, are ones our shop put on his car and I think he mixed that up with the blue silicone hose we use for water pipes. It is a silicone rubber boot, but it is black and is made by GKN. The boots are also called "aero" boots as they don't have bellows hanging out. We use them on all our road race cars and have been installing them on P and F cars for years as they last longer. They are the same boot used on Indy/Champ and F-1 cars. They really stand up to the heat the exhaust of the 355 dish out better than anything.

You'll have to get them from a shop like mine, or a race supply house. They are for a standard 108mm Lobro CV joint.
