Anyone know what this sticky stuff is? What to replace it with?
I have no definitive answer, however as a lead...it looks like a type of spray insulation foam that you could perhaps duplicate in a spray can product purchased from Home Depot or the like.
It's a self fusing rubber compound. Check with an A/C supply company, like Johnstone. It comes in sheets.
Yep, Speedy is right. It is a rubber/cork tape material. We get it by the roll at our shop. You will definitely need to replace it, otherwise condensation will flood the front boot! Try NAPA,Carquest, etc. AutoZone and Pep Boys may not carry it. BTW, are you changing the valve itself? Did you use factory or did you find a crossover? I need to change mine this summer. Dave
I'm RIGHT!! Ha ha, a good day! Condensation is what they are trying to avoid, as noted. Actually, I purchased a new expansion valve by taking mine off and running to a local automotive A/C only supplier, they took it in back and matched it up!
I was told one can get a similar expansion valve at O'Riely Auto Parts: Expansion valve Murray Climate Control PART# MRY 38683 THP AC3801C UPC 9636138683
