I am getting ready to change the oil in my new "to me" 348 for the first time. The car has 51K on it and recommendations on what weight of oil to use and the Baldwin Filter part number. TIA Frank

    Don't recall ever seeing a Baldwin cross-reference for a 348 posted...

I had just changed out my oil on my 348 CH with Mobil 1 Synthetic, 15W-50 (the one with the red cap). You'll need about 10-11 quarts and a new filter. Baldwin does not make a oem filter for the 348... I used Purflux..ack, don't have the part number on me... billybob? ernie? anyone?

Make sure you don't lose the copper washer when draining your oil - also, don't drain the tranny oil by accident. The oil drain plug is facing the front of the car, to the passenger side of the alternator, and uses a 12mm hex key. Also, fill with 10 qts, then drive around and fill when warm... you don't want to overfill the sumps on these cars... bad things will happen... just ask Martin! :)

    Good luck!

I think it is Purflux LS-538.

The oil filter is Purflux #LS-538 and more recently, Purflux #LS-925. #538 may no longer be available so check with your parts person. If you call one of the known F-parts places (Rutlands, Dennis McCann, etc) they'll send you the right stuff.

As for oil, I'm with Byron - Mobil 1 synthetic red top - $22 for a five quart jug at Wal-Mart does fine by me and my 348. Don't forget to drain both the sump and the engine and do drain it warm. Congratulations and enjoy your car in good health.

I have had my 348 for 14 years and have always used Mobil1 15-50. The car has been bullet proof!!
