Which F355 would you buy?

I had a chance to see and drive the car at Cavallino. Its in immaculate condition. I was able to review the service history since 2001 and the car is now recieving its 30K service before being delivered to me. A compression check will also be performed just to make sure everything is OK. Martin at Cavallino Motors was holding the car for the owner, Mike Grande of LNS Motorcars. Both are members here.

Trigger is already pulled. I love Rossa Barchetta and I have always bought cars for me instead of the next guy. It is also worth noting that Rossa Barchetta was Ferrari's racing color in the early days of the factory. I like the link to its history, just as I enjoy Porsches in Artic Silver.

With regards to resale, if your theory is right I am also buying at a lower price today and I wouldn't see any reason to believe that the depreciation curve will accelerate at a more rapid pace then other colors going forward. In fact, if there truly is a difference today, the gap may actually close in the future. Anyone notice that at Cavallino Ferrari chose to introduce the new model in a color that looked a whole lot like Rosso Barchetta?

 

I was eyeing that show at F of Dallas, sounds like it would be a fun 'coming out' party. Only problem is the date conflicts with the Maverick Region PCA swap meet. One of my other cars is an older 911 that I have been converting from a street vehicle into a full time track car and as a result my house is filling up with old parts. I had planned on trying to get rid of a few at the swap meet.

Update on my purchase: The compression test revealed some issues on cylinder #2. When the last compression test was done in 2001 this cylinder was in spec, but on the low side. It is now out of spec. The heads will be pulled and the valve guides will be replaced. It will take an extra week to get the car, but it will arrive with the mechanicals in top condition. Projected ship date is end of next week.

The price I had negotiated included getting the 30K serive done, good compression results, and no surprises from the service being performed. There are probably some short cuts that could have been taken before replacing the valve guides to get the numbers up, but Mike Grande (the seller) wanted the job done right to ensure I don't have problems down the road. He didn't call to discuss the options with me, he just ordered the job to be done right and at no additional cost to me. Besides being choosey with finding the right car, I think its also important that you buy from the right person. Robin - the sale of the Boxster S is going slowly. I only have it listed on autotrader, but after 2 weeks I have only received 1 call. There are just too many Boxsters coming off lease right now. At the prices it would take to unload it quickly, I am toying with the idea of keeping it. Only problem is that it would push another car out of the garage.
