When I firest saw this wonderful car, I assumed the correct way to pronounce Modena was Moe-Dean-Na ie, "funky cold modena". When I visited Sheltons a few years ago the salesman, who could easily fill in for Anthony Hopkins in Remains of the Day looked at me stearnly, and said it's MOE-DI-NA. While watching Rolex this morning, the Announcer said MOD-NI-DA, as in Mod Squad. Which is it? There must be only one correct pronounciation. Since I have discovered no spell check, I am sure you are thinking, no wonder he cannot pronounce this word correctly.

    Thanks

It's pronounced as it is spelled. Not with a "i" in et. The "e" is said as in the name "DES" - Modena (Moden-na if you will)

I asked some of the locals in Modena Italy last year and they were split...some said Mo-den-a (with the accent on "Mo") and others said Mod-en-a as in mod squad. They told me that it really didn't matter (at least to them).

From a real Italian to the masses:

Mo (as in Mow your lawn - if you don't have a lawn mo man)

Duh (as in duh you are soo wrong -valley girl)

gnah (as in a dog that will gnah his bone - for you dog people)

All together now Mo duh gnaw = Modena

If you can't figure it out send me a pm with your phone number and I call you to pronounce it.

Yes I'm Italian, and yes I have heard too many people masacure the name so I rather have people pronounce it correctly.

    Grazie!

    Mario

Not nearly as complicated as Lamborghini names...

Murcielago - people say Mur-see-lar-go when its Mur-see-al-igo

Gallardo - people say Gar-lar-doe when its Gay-arr-doe

(told to me by the head of Lamborghini-London :D

Odd, Numerous articles have explained that the dialect local to where the bull was from pronounced it Mur-thea-lago where as in the rest of the country it was pronounced Mur-chea-lago and now we are back to Mur-see-al-igo. Where did that "I" come from at the end?

    How about a definative source!

I know. That's what i thought. I went in to view the Gallardo and Murcie in the London showroom and asked how they pronounced each car's name. Apparantly they went on a course to learn all about the car (being salesmen) and were taught that was the correct pronounciation.

I personally prefer Mur-thea-lago as it sounds more manly :D

Murcielago is a Spanish word, so it should be like:

    Mur - thee - AY - la - go

The Mu in Mur is like how a cow goes Moo.

The thee is with the th lisped, and the ee is the way we say E in the alphabet. The ay is like how we say A in the alphabet. Accent on the ay (There's an accent mark over it in proper Spanish)

    Gallardo:

    Ga - YAR - do.

Murcielago is the name of a Castilian bull.

Since the name is a Castilian name, I pronounce it as the Castilians would, and the c becomes a "th"

So, it is Mur thee uh lah go

Yes, except it isn't "uh", because that syllable has the accent.

Castilian is the real name of the language known to many as spanish, Spain its got many regions and different languages, its not only castilian "spanish" thats spoken there. Spanish is the national language, many spaniards don't like it when people think that spanish its the only language spoken there. If you want to know how to pronounce this names well then asked any spanish speaking person that you see around or know yourself, its not like we don't have any around us.
