Ok.. my scenario... (I'll try to be brief but I'd really like your suggestions)

86 328GTS Purchased 12/03 55K miles $36K, (no prior service records, (a "miticulous" previous owner had for 14 months, performed basic service, oil change, plugs etc.. lost his job had to sell. he purchased from a LA broker with no records) history checked clean, passed CA smog fine.

Exterior Condition: Nearly flawless, a few minor stone chips. Tires A+, under-carriage looked fine. Weather striping perfect. Targa squeaks as they normally do. Not even a key scratch on the lock assemblies.!!

Interior: Again, flawless. Every switch, knob and light bulb works great. Cold A/C etc.. Typical slow passenger window was all I noticed.

Engine: After 1600 miles of personal use, nothing! Runs great, shifts smooth, no rear chatter, no leaks, no white smoke, hoses look great, "OEM" oil/air filters new, engine compartment clean & well kept. Starts "hot" perfect every time. (below 42° it takes about 5 tries though, ticking belt noise at startup at that temperature, then nothing). Engine/oil Temps perfect even in gridlock. I did snap a frayed throttle cable the previous owner warned me about. Otherwise that's it.

Overall: Drives great, wheel alignment perfect. No shimmy or squeaks and tire wear very consistent. I'd say 10K miles of tire wear.

Otherwise I consider myself extremly lucky with this purchase!

SOOOOOOOO... From my few months of F-Chat experience.. What would you guys recommend to re-establish service records and get some "piece of mind" back?

I'M THINKING THIS ~~ based on my F-Chat reading... Any input?

    Minimum:
    Timing belts
    All hoses (Fuel & Coolant)
    Brakes (Purge and new pads)
    Cables (Emerg brake,throttle, clutch)
Gearbox oil ( Redline ?, I know another debate!)
Oil Change ( go AGIP, mech says he's seen a few polished heads with Mobil one Synth)

    Suggestions?
    60K Service? rebuild?
    Clutch ?
    Water pump?
    Valve Adj?
    Anything I'm forgetting?

I've scheduled service with a highly recommended independent during my upcoming Ireland Vacation. (So he'll have two weeks with no rush ) but I need to give him some direction as to what I want.

Personally, I'm going to keep the car. So cost is not an issue and I consider it a good investment regardless. This wont be a garage queen !! I'll put 3-6K miles of pleasure miles a year on it..

I respect the fellow F-Chatters opinion...! and would welcome any suggestions or experiences.

Thanks again everyone for your fantastic help and advice...!!!

I agree, and also the coolant lines, mine just started leaking and I thought they were in great condition.
And what exactly is wrong with a Garage Queen anyway?

Patrick, I have a 1988 328 (new to me in Oct 03), and am also in North County, (Escondido). I am curious as to your choice of mechanic as I need to make a similar decision.
    Thanks,
    Craig
