I don't know when, but we'll be upgrading the memory on the FerrariChat.com server from 1 Gb to 2 Gb in order to improve performance. The site will be down for up to 5 minutes, but I don't know when it will happen. I'll post here after the upgrade.

    Thanks,
    rob

Rob, not to be rude, but out of curiosity are you going to regenerate the links on the old site at the same time? Paul Hill and I are waiting on a post that has some computational info on it so we can make spacers. :)

Ohh, thanks for the reminder, I was working on that, but haven't looked at it in a day or so. I'll get back with you. The fix won't shut FC down, just make it a little slow for a couple hours. I would do it later at night.

I don't think any single user will have problems, but one single Rob will as I would get 50 emails and 5+ phone calls. Yes, it happens everytime FC goes down. :)

If someone sees "This site cannot be found, yadayadayada" Then the emails come in.

I suggest a short and sweet "Under Maintenance" page for those times.

i mirror Tillman's sentiments... i lament to consider the atrocity it means to have internet access but no ability to access FerrariChat... The atrocity that will be a reality tomorrow...

    Sigh...

Maybe i should call in sick...

    :::cough, cough:::

I appreciate a heads up when there are problems, things have actually been pretty stable the past year on the new server.

Just got word the RAM upgrade will require a new motherboard, so it won't be until Thursday and it will take a little longer than 5 minutes. Thanks.

LOL - They just contacted me, it will now be tomorrow, they had some "hardware" issues.

In my experience hardware issues can always be fixed by finding the right software. :D

Well, as you noticed a little Friday afternoon, you were posting in the future for awhile. Sorry about that, part of this memory upgrade required a new motherboard, when they did that the clock was off. Unfortunately it was in the future so with our flood control you would have to wait until 2 seconds past when the computer said you were posting in the future. :)

Bottom line is after about 4am Saturday morning all posts should be back in the past.

I still only have 1 Gb of RAM, so they still have to do that. I guess it's possible we would get the clock problem again, but hopefully correct it quicker. I was tied up at work and couldn't react to this very quick.

    Thanks,
    rob

    Rob,

The time stamp problem might be my fault. I might have accidentally disturbed the space-time continuum yesterday when I took my car out for a spin. Sorry for the paradox.

Well, I need to watch it over a few days and different parts of the day. Here it is right now with a pretty heavy load...

I just ran a "top" command and wonder why it only shows 1 Gb of memory, they said it was upgraded to 2 Gb. It shows 1 Gb of swap memory, but hardly any of it's being used. I've asked the person that did it, but just doesn't make sense and doesn't seem like the extra Gb is being used.

Looks like the server OS might need to be configured to handle the extra memory. It's in there, but not helping the site out yet.

"Redhat may need to be manually configured to see the 2G. We will look into it further."

Rob- I still think you may be disk bound. Any processes in 'top' show high CPU 'wait' (which really means the CPU is idle, but occupied, waiting on your disk!)

    Best!
    Ben.
