My 328 speedo seems to be very optimistic. Is this common? I never checked it out exactly but I would say it reads about 80 when I'm doing 60. Tires are correct size.

I had that same delima with mine, but it was me... I took my hand held GPS and verified the speedo was correct and it was. My next step was going to borrow my friends radar gun and check it against that...

Even though, twice last summer, i did have an instant jump in the speedo. I saw some threads about that, luckily it hasn't done that again....

Many Ferrari speedometers are as much as 10% optimistic.
A close approximation trick in 5th gear is to double the tach reading.

A while ago there was another thread on this subject and it seems that in the USA speedos can be off +/- X%, but in Italy, speedos can not read any lower and I think they said they can read up to 10% higher. The rational was based on liability; theoretically it would be hard to blame the speedo in an injury accident if it read too high.

Tried that today in the 328 - Worked great! ~70 at 3500 and ~80 at 4000.

    Thanks!
