    i was told one way to avoid capital gains taxes on the stocks traded by mutual fund managers is to invest in exchange traded funds like diamonds, spiders, etc. how do they compare in general?

    Generally ETFs underperform their counterparts. Probably better off going with a fund that has historically been tax efficient (Not a "tax efficient" named fund though as they also underperform).
