At a toy conference in Germany Lego unveiled a full scale Ferrari F1 made out of 146,000 pieces. In April they will come out with a series of Ferraris made of Legos.

Picture is taken from Blick's website:

I hope that they are better than the last ones they came out with; They were so generic looking. There is a guy who built a scale model of a 550 out of Legos. It is on their website. If I can I will post it here.

They're planning on having a MS and RB figure with the car.

My comment was mainly in reference to the road cars that they did, but the theme Ferrari F1s were bad too.

I have been told that they did a good job with the Technic Williams/BMW F1. I had not heard about the Technic Ferrari F1 that they did for Exoticar.

Yeah, that looks generic. From what I understand the new series will be a lot more refined and detailed.

There was a larger version than those sold at Shell stations in the US together with the US F1 race. I have two still in the box.

I got my son the Williams F1 for Christmas this year, but he's been too busy blasting the neighborhood kids with his electronic 12 rounds per second paint ball gun to put it together.

Only in Texas, do we give firearms on God's birthday. Peace

TSMIV, I have that set of Legos...but do understand, they have made much more elaborate Ferrari F1 cars than that set....

Surprised Allan isn't here yet telling us how the Lambo of Legos is faster. :)

There was a much better set - part of the Lego Mindstorms collection - a few years ago. I have one on the shelf in the living room between a couple of 1/16 cars. They haven't been made in a while but there are still some available and they come across Ebay pretty regularly in sealed boxes. When I find my digital camera - I think my ex-girlfriend has it - I can take pictures. It is somewhat detailed with a removable cowling over the engine compartment and working steering.

I even managed to put it together all by myself!

Here is a link to a site with soem for sale and a picture of the box.

Yes, the F1 car I have in the box would be about 12" - 14" when built.

But the Williams is about 22" L.

Yes, that's it. That's also about what I paid in a Shell station when I bought mine.

I did not mean to offend anyone and if I did I whole heartedly apoligize. I was planning on my buying those sets myself until I heard the news today. Now, I will wait and see. What I meant was that they do not look like real Ferraris. Then again you cannot expect a Lego car that size to look like one.

I think that is the one that I was talking about Exoticar selling. I had never seen it anywhere else. Thanks for the link.

Lego is trying to increase public awareness right now. I read that mrket share is down right now.

Those full size displays are publicity for them.

My little guy is about ready to move up to the Bburago kits.
I also found him Bugatti EB110 Daytona version.

Those ARE the old ones Impala.

They were issued thru Shell stations for the first USGP, and were stocked for about a year after.

btw, I got the Ferrari F1 lego car as well. 580 pieces. it was about 20 bucks + shipping. good buy in my opinion for what it is. I'm just impressed that it isn't too cheesey. friends have commented much more than the other model cars that I have. a must have in my opinion, even if it is lacking in detail, accuracy, etc. I'll post pictures sometime in the next few days.

Anybody else have the Lego "supercar" from a few years ago? It was the top of the line Technic series. 1400 pieces in the set and it is really impressive. gullwing doors with air pistons, coil suspension, working 5 speed with reverse, steering, pistons and an engine that can switch between front and back. Also can be turned into a full convertible. I'd like to see them make a new supercar model in the coming years. They keep getting better and better.

You have the red one right?

My younger brother has its predecessor, the black one. It was simply a coupe with pop-up headlights, a five speed and a midengine V8.
