Maybe this excuse has been used by buyers to lower the price, however, I don't think this would matter since electric seats don't have any memory. AW
Bearing a significant depreciation in the 360M market over the last 30 days (when I started looking), I agree with Martin....If our intent is to help the gentleman price discovered...it's important to be true to the market so both buyer/seller won't end up wasting their time and resources. I do value all educated insights about depreciation&future value on this thread but in my opinion "if you are passionate about a particular car (esp. one of this price range)...."be a savvy consumer obviously....but dude... GO BUY YOURSELF ONE and enjoy driving it TODAY". Life is too short to live in igony of waiting years down the road and or worrying about what it will be worth 3 years down the road (again for this price range)... Too many of us get too caught up at times with future value and confuse the notion of car ownership with investment ownership. I hardly allow economics a primary driver in my car decision making...but that is just me.
Allan, I think your friend has been very lucky, cause it's rare to find it at that price. No matter what you say.
Rare yes, for sure, but as now proven, not impossible. We now know the high AND the low range for the car, anything else is fair game between the buyer and seller. Why not try to save $20k or more? How is that a bad thing? Anyone arguing against that is someone who hears the footsteps on their own F-car plummeting in value by the second.
Best way to find out what the car is worth, is call several dealers and tell them youd like to sell the car outright, and get a buy figure from them. 100K is tops, and you will lose money quickly.
The 10K number came from Miller Motorcars in Ct, Scottsdale Ferrari, Wide World and Algar. Also confirmed with European Auto who is the biggest wholesaler at Teterboro. It was a shock to me as well wwhen I was looking to buy...
Allan do you understand the difference between wholesale and retail? Also, Martin is a dealer. Read his post. He said he would take as many of these at $100K as you could give him (3 to 4 anyway). There's a dealer right here - no need to make calls. Some times you are tiring. everyone understands you think 360's are worth ****. Why dont you just ignore these threads as most people are trying to figure out the facts and you really aren't helping. This guy is looking to buy a 360 (retail). Calling a dealer and saying you need to trade in a car - is a wholesale deal. Get the difference. Crazy deals like a 2002 spyder for $140K are not reflective of the market. There are going to be stupid deals on the high side and on the low side. There still are spyders trading for $230K+ (too high IMO). Did you notice I said trading - not being offered at. In other words, some people are still paying those prices. I believe a 1999 with 15K service including belt change with 16,000 miles is worth $125 maybe $130K at a stretch if its in great shape. Its a good color. Miles hurt.
Actually, make it exactly 25% better. (100 hp) Or deduct a few % for being 4 wheel drive, so maybe 20%.
Thank you again everyone for your thoughts, opinions, and insights -- all appreciated. Heh. I love how every thread now turns into a 360 vs. Gallardo thread. Well don't worry...I'm also getting a Gallardo in a few months, so I can tell ya'll how the two stack up head-to-head.
What you need to understand, is a car is worth only what someone is willing to pay. With 10 million 360's on the market, people can ask whatever they want, as they are still sitting on the showroom floors. I certainly know the difference between wholesale and retail, and coming out of the car biz, i also know the Mark-up percentage. I could careless what Martin says, he wants to sell cars and make money. Im not in the market for a 360, but if i were, i can guarentee that i could find one to meet my criteria...easily. People first posted that you cant buy Spiders at Msrp, when not on the list, i know this to be misinformation firsthand. I also know firsthand, what dealers were realisticly offering for the 2002 Spider which was purchased for 140,000. You people keep trying to convince yourselves, or keep paying too much. I dont care, its your money. But the topic of this thread was about the worth of a 99 360, and i gave my opinion.
A MAN ASKED A QUESTION, AND LOTS OF PEOPLE ANSWERED IT. YOU GAVE A BLANKET STATEMENT WITHOUT DATA, SEVERAL PEOPLE CHALLENGED IT. IF THEY WERE THAT CHEAP, I'D BE FLIPPIN' 'EM LIKE BURGERS. NEVER LOOKED EASIER. HERE'S A ISLAND REFRESHER FOR YA, ELLEN. TIRESOME, SO... Image Unavailable, Please Login
From your post, its still not very clear to me that you do understand the difference. However, given your amazing prowess at finding cheap 360's, you should get back into the car biz. Think about it - as you say there are millions out there for sale. You can find 2002 spiders at less than $140K (wholesale). You can turn around and sell them for $180K (retail) - making $40-50K on each one. Believe it or not there are still people out there paying $180K for spyders!! What idiots.. Do 3 a month and you are making $1.5M a year. That's gotta be even less work than what you're doing right now. Hey, that sounds so easy I may even do it on the side myself. That kinda money's nothing to be sneezed at.
I'd agree with that, except I'd add another 15% for being much better looking. It's what a $180k car should look like. These cars should not be able to be confused with a Hyundai Tiburon.
SO WHAT DO YOU DRIVE...EXPERTS LIKE YOU NEED TO TELL US PLEBIANS WHAT TO OWN.... PEOPLE IN OTHER THREADS KEEP ASKING, I GUESS YOU ARE SO BUSY YOU CAN'T REMEMBER. AT LEAST YOU GOT THE SUCK PART RIGHT. NOW I SEE YOU HAVE HAD A 348 5Y AGO. AND A COUPLE MR2'S, AN NSX. BY ALL MEANS LECTURE AWAY. BE CAREFUL ABOUT CIVIC JOKES THOUGH, KIND OF CLOSE TO HOME. KISSES.
I don't comment on anything I don't have wheel time on. I wish I could say the same for you, but you've given no details as to what you own or what your experience is. My wheel time with a 308 almost a decade ago was laughable, it couldn't keep up with a lowly MR2, and it was a horrible handler. The suspension was a joke in terms of dive/squat and overall balance. Has it gotten faster and does it handle better now? Ferrari must have a great refresh program for it if so, lol. I drove my first 328 three years ago, and expected it to be a superior drive to my memories of the 308, and in most ways it was indeed greatly improved. But to buy one today is asinine when a used C5 Vette or 3.0L NSX offer more thrills, a TON more speed and handling, and don't look as dated as one of Tom Selleck's floral shirts. Not a car I'd own or advise anyone else to own when even F-car loyalists can buy a 348 for only $10 - $15k more. Give us your thoughts professor. I've already enlightened you, and given you much to ponder. If you like, you can print my observations out and put them on your wall to remember. But I'll be happy to rehash them anytime a thread like this starts up.
On Thursday, I got 8 pounds of 93% lean ground sirloin for 79 cents a pound. Price was not dependent on quantity. This does not mean that 79 cents a pound is the going rate for ground sirloin. It means I got a good deal.
LIKE I SAID IN OTHER POST, I'M ON MY 8TH F-CAR. I HAVE DRIVEN PRETTY MUCH EVERYTHING PRODUCED RECENTLY, PLUS LOTS OF OLD STUFF. HAVEN'T DRIVEN ENZO, WAS 120 ON LIST FOR 80 CARS. WE'RE HERE TO TALK ABOUT FERRARIS, NOT HOW SUPERIOR OTHER CARS ARE. AS AN NSX OWNER, YOU HAVE A CHIP TO BE SURE. AND IN ACCORDANCE WITH YOUR NOT COMMENTING ON STUFF YOU HAVEN'T DRIVEN, WHERE DID YOU DRIVE A CS? I DROVE ONE OF A FRIEND, WE SWAP CARS OFTEN. 10 YEARS AGO, YOU DROVE A 10-15YO 308, AND WEREN'T IMPRESSED? YOUR MR2 WAS BETTER? BASED ON VAST EXPERIENCE OF A THEN 21YO. I WOULDN'T WIPE MY A$$ WITH YOUR OPINIONS. Image Unavailable, Please Login
You get farther and farther outside the "logic box" as I call it, with each post. You just don't make any sense, and worse, you don't respond to the issues I bring up with any clarity or insight. I won't be replying to any more of your posts, even when my experiences might benefit the people on the sidelines. Just no point.
Many would say that there are no points to any of your posts. Except of course to get the attention of your mentor on this forum.
Hi Mikey! So much for you "not wasting any more keystrokes" on me...Wasn't that your womanly battle cry a month ago? Welcome back! They never can stay away for long. Their blood boils to much on the sideline (heavy lisp voice) "OH HE MAKESSS ME SSSSOOOO MADDD!!!" Where is the Jim J Bullock poster when you need him...
I dont recall that - I think it was your mentor that said that about me. Can you post the link to where I said that? I didn't think so. Nah, as I've said before: You attack me personally, I take the gloves off. Mikey here has a month long history of being total a$$clown, so from me he gets a boot to the a$$ everytime. He's acting nice right now because of the poll thread, but go research his former posts and you'll see nothing but venom. Sfumato, you've never attacked, so why would I treat you poorly, even with your sarcastic question.
