Boxer trim or not to trim?

That decision is strictly personal. My Boxer is all red, and I like it very much.

 

I prefer the looks of a solid colored Boxer.

 

I think the way the black lower half picks out the car's sharp lines is wonderful; like nothing else. Keep it black, say I.

 

You should have included a poll question.

I prefer mono-color coachwork too (but don't dislike the "Boxer" scheme)

 

i too have an all red. if you can properly match the paint, you may consider the all red as it will be like a new car to you! both choices are great however...you have a great machine!!

If originality is important to you (as it is with me)- leave it black

Aesthetically, body color lower half looks better, however

 

IMHO the black is unique to the BB - I vote keep it 2 tone.

i like keeping things original. that being said, i like the boxer mono-colored, and if it were mine i would paint it red.

 

I have the boxer trim on my 1977 308GTB.

It is period correct and matches it's "big brother". While this is an aesthetic decision, for each owner to make, I wouldn't change mine.

The 512 was Standard as two tone. Option as monotone.

just a thought...was you bbi originally painted w/ boxer trim? there have been some cars that get painted that way as a result of handling the "sand blasting" that occurs below the belt line when these cars are driven in bad road conditions. just a thought.

My 2cents: Both my Boxer and my 328 have "Boxer" trim and I prefer it, I think I actually like it even better on the 328! And I also agree the flat black takes the road rash better.

Some here have based opinion on mental concepts: "originality," "period-correct." Another viewpoint is strictly aesthetics: how does it LOOK to you--NOW (not looking back in time)? Which approach is more meaningful to YOU? I feel a different colored trim doesn't do justice to the lines. IMO, the trim color needs to match the upper body color for continuity, otherwise there's a very abrupt change from top to bottom. Especially with red/black, black breaks up the overall look. On the other hand, that white/black 328 with Boxer trim looks like a better marriage than on the Boxer itself.
