Anyone know how many 250 GTO's were built, and also how many testarossa's? some website listed only 40 GTOs but that seems INSANELY low right?

I believe but Wayne will no better that 39 250 GTO's were originally built by the Ferrari factory. Now there is probably something like 250 ;)

If you include the breadvan (rebodied 250 SWB by Bizzarini (sp?) and engine modified to GTO specs ...) then you reach your 40 cars.

By far, the most commonly accepted lists account for 33 250 GTOs with 62 style bodywork. Some were rebodied with later (1964) design.

    http://www.barchetta.cc/english/All.Ferraris/summary/SN.250.GTO.62.htm

and 3 250 GTOs with 64 style bodywork

    http://www.barchetta.cc/english/All.Ferraris/summary/SN.250.GTO.64.htm

Then we get into the 4L cars...another discussion, entirely.

By TR, I assume you mean 250 Testa Rossas, not later Testarossas.

My sources have 19 which went to customers and 5 that stayed with factory racing division. (see http://www.fca-houston.org/TWS97.htm for a TR and a GTO)

ONE 330 TR, raced by Hill and Gendebien, now in Louisiana, and probably known to some FCers.

    FYI.

Pourret/Bluemel also list 3909 GT. Sold at the peak of the Ferrari frenzy for 10,000,000 pounds

You guys are on top of your game, I must say! The response time and apparent accuracy is downright frightening! Its really a shame though, that these two cars (my personal favorite vintage cars) are so rare, as I am not one to collect for the sake of having one of so few, but instead because they are beautiful and very visceral, Im sure.

    That's correct.

Wax, the QV500 site mistakenly list 3765SA as a 250 GTO. It is one of the 400 Superamericas referred to above.

to add a little more....my sources say 39 250GTOs built by the factory. i believe though that 3 of those were converted to 250 LMs (i think thats the right designation). i dont know the state of these cars now, (if any of the LMs were converted back or whatever) though.

my question is though, are all 39 GTOs accounted for? or have some of them been lost or destroyed?

im hoping that someday ill buy a farm
and on the farm there will be an old run down barn
and in that barn there will be a 250GTO covered in yarn
    and then suddenly.....im day dreaming....darn

seriously though, my uncle, who restores old jaguars, found a series I E-type in a barn that he bought for a few hundred dollars, and restored it to mint condition

i dont have enough money for one of these rare classics, so im hoping that fate will intervene and ill happen upon my dream car

If you do find one do not tell anybody until you have driven the car ... why?

Because you will be inundated (sp?) with offers to buy the car which you will not be able to refuse ... then you will only be able to say that you once owned a 250 GTO, but never drove it ... how sad!

Saying that I think ALL 250 GTOs are accounted for ...

All GTO's still exist. There were never any GTO's converted into 250 LM's.
A total of 36 GTO's were build, including in this number are the 3 four-litre cars that were actually 400 SA's. In 1964, Ferrari built 3 more GTO's with the 1964 style bodywork (5571GT, 5573GT and 5575GT). In that same year, 4 cars of the original series were converted to the 64-style bodywork. The 1964 bodywork shared some details with the 250 LM, mainly the roof.
The "breadvan" is a modified 250 SWB, not a GTO.

regarding the 250LMs. acutally i just checked my sources and the cars that i was thinking of, was the rebodied 250GTOs that look similar to the 250LMs. i wrote above that they were 250LMs, but i really meant to discuss the 3 rebodied 250GTOs in 1964.

so i guess in this case, there are only 36 250GTOs in the "classic" GTO look, and the other 3 are the rebodied, 250LM type mid engine style.

You're confused again. Let me set this straight:

    1. There were 33 250 GTOs originally bodied in the 1962-63 body style.

    2. There were 3 250 GTOs originally bodied in the 1964 body style (roof line is similar to LM, but they are NOT mid-engined).

    3. Some of the earlier cars were upgraded in 1964 to the new body style. Some have since been changed back. Some have not. No matter, they are all 250 GTOs

Therefore, there were and are 36 250 GTOs.

In addition, there are some 400 Superamericas out there that were originally given 1962 250GTO style bodywork and at least one that has been modified after the fact. These cars are not 250s at all. Some call them "330 GTO's," I call them what they are, 400 Superamericas. You can call them what you like.

All 36 of the original 250 GTOs are intact and accounted for today.

wayne, the only discrepancy between our sources of knowledge, is the total number of original 250GTOs. ive read 39 and now that i think about it, ive also read 36...but more so ive seen that 39 have been built. now i am not extremely knowledged about the production numbers of the 250GTO... so i wouldnt be surprised if i am wrong and there were 36 built..in either case, there are still very few of them in the world. thanks for clearing it up though.

any idea where the number 39 came from then? could have some pieces of literature counted some of those 400 SAs that were converted to GTOs as being GTOs?

Wayne, there are 32 bodied in the 62-63 style of course, because #4713GT has a LMB body from the beginning. But no doubt you were aware of this.

GTO 3705GT has an impressive racehistory and is currently owned by Mr. Ed Davies in the US. The car is fanatically raced in the FMHC series.

4713GT is sold with a 330 LM body in 1963.

2 special "GTO experimentale" with 4 litre engine sold in 1963 : 3765LM and 4561SA

    4153GT to 5111GT, seven 250 GTO (1962 style) are sold in 1963.

3413GT, 4091GT, 4399GT and 4675GT these car are first serie, they have been rebodied as 1964 style.

    5571GT, 5573GT and 5575GT are real 64 250 GTO.

But how many build and sold in 1962 and which s/n ?

Is 4713GT also know as a 330LMB? Or are the LM and LMB different cars?
There's been a 330LMB campaigned regularly the last few years on the historic scene. Is this 4713GT?

    Cheers

Your chassisnumbers are OK! #4091GT was rebodied in 64 style late 1983 by Peter Sachs.
