... this February for the usual classic meeting (I think it is the weekend of the 28th of Feb).

This is the first time EVER that a 250GTO has touched Australian soil ...

I just hope they stay around for the Melbourne F1 GP which I am going to.

Do not know the chassis numbers ... just read an article and have been extremely pissed off that I cannot go to Philip Island to see them.

Will I ever see one for real?

I only attended yesterday (Sunday 29th) and it was amazing event. As pointed out, one of the "GTO's" was a 250 GT rebodied and restored to 1964 GTO specifications. According to the program it is chassis 3105, although I have been informed that it was chassis #3103. Don't let this take anything away from the fact that this is still a very impressive piece of machinery.

I spoke to Tom Price, the owner of the genuine 250 GTO and a very nice and enthusiastic gentleman (he has owned the car for the last 20 years). Unfortunately, he will not be attending the Melbourne GP as he has to fly back to the US. However, he said there is still the chance that his car will be on display but it won't be driven.

I'm still in the process of uploading all my pics to my computer and what I have seen I haven't been to happy with. Here's a pic anyway.

The "206 SP" #3 is another David Piper-built replica. The real 206 SP with that chassis number (004) is in Switzerland. As previously mentioned, the "GTO/64" is a replica as well.

Tom Price's GTO (#22) is a genuine car.

Jim -- they are tiny. If you ever see the poster from the inaugural Chicago Historic Races (Elkhart Lake) in 1979 or '80, that's me in my 206 SP. My helmet from about the visor up is above the windshield, and I'm sitting on the floor. Of course, my car also weighted 1515 pounds wet and ready to go on the track (less my 200 or so pounds). In modern terms the 206 SP is really a big go-kart with bodywork.

A while ago Alberto had one for sale for 20K (I think it went to Chicago?) He let me drive it. I remember the pedals being very tight. They are very beautiful.

PS I think it was 014. (Weinberger)
