Ok, lets see pictures! Hopefully desktop size. Whats your ideal home? the only place that I saw consistently "awesome" estates was in the DPR, anybody else know where to look for quality pics?

My ideal home is the one owned by a fellow F chatter, Mr. A E Haas in FL.

Stunning house, and he is a gentleman to boot!

I don't have a picture, but there's a HUGE Mediterranean style house around West Lake in Austin. My guess is its roughly b/w 25,000 and 40000 sq.ft. It's absolutely the most amazing house I've ever seen.

I think a ideal house would be one with alot of natural light, caverneous rooms with cathedral ceilings courtyard in the middle. Lots of car space. some widow walks and lots of balconies. and then a few floors under the ground too for lots of party room without messing up the rest of the house. I dont know just a bad as* house. Ive also always wanted my own race track with a huge 10 mile oval for top speed runs and the middle can be full of chicanes and twists everywhere for fun driving with height changes alot too. Itd be fun as hell. All my friends could live there and we could all race each other all the time. And I wouldnt have to risk the lifes of myself or others on the highway.

I'm fairly sure the Farnsworth House (the one in fall foliage) certainly does (as does Philip Johnson's Glass House in CT). Of course, when your in a serene site such as these, having significant glazing in the loo isn't too much an issue.

BTW, why the hell would someone want a 25,000 gsf house??? To each his (or her) own I suppose ;)

Yes, too small for many; 2,000 gsf on a 61 acre site.

ITs a cool house, it just isnt big enough for a family. The 61 acres is nice though. I sort of like some houses that are modern. Many of them are downright ugly though. There are many frank lloyd wrgiht houses in a neighboorhood called usonia in my town. They are too set back in the woods. I know thats the point but they are drab, no sunlight, and just depressing.

2000 sf isn't enough for a family?? Don't tell that to anyone else because at least in Mn most people have a house that avgs around 1700-2400 sf. You must be live in a mansion if 2000 sf isn't enough

im saying from looking at the pic it looks small. All like one big room. 6000sqft is alot. The house i live doesnt have a footprint that big but its 3 stories and a basement and an attic.

Interesting point you make about FLW's homes, most of them here in the midwest and out east are very dark and dreary inside. I think he overcame this problem with his projects out west.
Just like everything, there are certainly extreme (ie bad) examples of modernism in housing. The one that comes to my mind is the dreary vault Cameron lived at in Ferris Bueller. It's unfortunate that it's examples like this that scare the general public away from modernism, opting instead for the typical builder house in anytown, usa. with taupe siding, a two story chandeliered entry, and white gypboard everywhere.

With that being said, I probably have offended some people with that last comment so I should pipe down.

    LET'S SEE SOME PHOTOS!!!!
