I just came back from looking at this car. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2459790919&category=6212 It is very clean and in very good cosmetic condition. Dosen't have complete records, however it had a records for a 30k done in early 01 at local dealer. Nothing major beyond the standard service is noted. The car has only gone 1000 miles since then. Fresh Pirelli tires. Had an oil change recently at the dealer. One odd thing is that there are new seatbelts installed. Old ones are in a Ferrari parts box in the car. Why would this be??? I'm looking for some guidence on values and what to look for at a PPI. Thanks in advance for the help. 007
After I used my brakes {911} to their full potental a few years ago, I swaped out the seat belts due to excessive wear. The plastic part where the belt touches was melted and rock climbers don't use the same rope after a fall, so I changed them.
Brad Suggest you search the archives on the old site. Much of what to look for has been covered. If you are serious about the car, my advice is to get a local dealer to do a PPI and a leakdown test, cost in the region of $500 for both. I believe there was an issue with the 80/81s with premature piston ring wear. Ask the seller about excessive oil consumption. Good luck Philip
I have found out that they want $33,000 for this car. Seems $3k to $5k high if it even checks out A-Ok at PPI. Am I wrong???
007, $33k is indeed too high. MUCH too high. Personally, i would seek out a 1984 or 1985 Qv as Ferrari did have some VERY usable upgrades over the 1980. QV versus 2i, anti-rust measures, head lining, etc. And if you are really patient and fortuitous, find a nice Euro '84 or '85 Enjoy the Drive, Steven R. Rochlin
$33k is way too much. There is a Brown one right now on E-Bay for $24,850 that looks pretty clean. I agree try and find a 83-85 QV which are much quicker with some nice upgrades.
A black interior in Arizona is just BAD NEWS. On top of that, the A/C isn't the greatest in the world.....where/when will you drive such a thing and be comfortable? I'd replace the fuel lines on a car like this, as well as most of the hoses if they weren't done in 2001 with the Major. Only driven 1000 miles in the past three years? This car's gonna leak somewhere...the PPI might be able to find it. Maybe not. How old is the water/fuel pumps? The 80-82 cars are the SLOWEST out there - and are worth the LEAST. This series also had problems with huge oil consumption - some had to be recalled by the factory and get new motors, others were rebuilt. Scant paperwork? You may want to talk to FNA to see if this car was recalled or not.
While the 80-82s are the most hampered by emissions, they are a great car and great value right now. Should be able to get a good one in the 20s. Buy one and you can drive it every day.
