I would like to buy a convertible that my wife and I along with our three children can enjoy. However, all the ones I have found only seat four. Does anyone know of a convertible that has five seatbelts ?

My children are 6, 8 and 10. While the BMW, Saab, MB and VW all have five seatbelts in their coupe versions, they only have four in their convertible versions of the same models. I really don't want to have to buy an old Cady or some other older car, but so far that is all that I have found that seats three in the rear.

I think you are out of luck. They just don't make convertibles as big as they used to.

If I were you, I'd look at some big old American convertible, like the Caddy, or amybe an old Chevy Impala. The ones you mentioned (you could have seatbelys installed), as well as others I think about, would be significantly cramped in the back. A 60's or 70's American convert has a certain kitschy appeal.

I think one of the lamest cars of all time (LeBaron) is a 5 seater.

"You bought Gordon a LeBaron?" guess the movie.

The the Lexus perhaps? Of course, your kids would have to be REALLY small....

Although, a friend of mine said he managed to take himself and a few friends to Palm Springs in the thing (A couple of teenagers on a 2.5 hour trip).

Here's another one to take a look at. An aftermarket stretched Jeep.

    They advertise in DuPont Registry.

By the way, I know my convertibles pretty well -- I can't think of a factory 5 seater off the top of my head.

    Parkerfe,
I have '69 Mustang Conv., and my Mustang mechanic said he can put a lap seat belt in the middle of rear seat. I did major restoration on interior last year. This year, I am doing mechanical restoration, and I may install 3rd seat belt.

It's not a new car, but thought you may be interested what could be done as your choice.

i am in the same position and have given this some thought, and like the man said, your only (recently built) option is the older E320 convertible, which by the way is a really great car and will become a collector's item down the road since they made so few of them.

if you go the really old car route, then you have tons of american stuff to choose from, and even some older mercs and rollers come in at decent prices.
if it were me, i would get a lincoln with the suicide doors.
