3rd. All around best, good pick up, best sound since you get more exhaust sound then with 1 or 2.

2nd. Enough load to make things sound good, without wind noise to detract. Acceleration enough to scare you, without fighting the increased aero drag in higher gears. Feels fast, but not fast enough to risk loosing your license.

But the actual answer is "Whatever one I'm in!"

I'd agree with what ever gear is proper for the corner... but I voted 3rd. It seems to be the gear to many high speed corners. My ZX2 understeers bad until you let off the gas and the front hook up. I really enjoy the double clutches down to third, a corner for third in my car is fast and interseting at any line you decide to take. I don't know if its the "best" gear, it depends on the car, but for my nasty daily driver... it seems to be the most entertaining.

Has to be 5th. I've never experienced anything remotely like it. On, and on, and on, and faster, and faster, and...

It's the 3rd. That's when you feel your torso pinned back to the seat and the the sound is at it's best.

I love 2nd, because my car (WRX) hits redline in 2nd at about 62mph... more than enough to have fun on a regular road and by about then my passengers are sufficiently nervous ;-).

2nd in a Ferrari, a little stiff, if rushed when cold.

Smooth and languid when warmed up and cooking.

We're talking about cars, right? ;)

I'm with JMillard308, also, surplus F1 team gear and some "Enzo" Wayfarers.
Real Ray Bans if car is running, $4 knockoffs when it's in the shop.

2nd - Because when my 328 is warmed up enough to actually use these gear, the car is ready to be driven the way it was meant to. :)

3rd: pulls hard, goes fast, adequate for most windy roads, still within a speed range where you can test the limits of adherence without taking undue risks.

On a twisty road, love 2nd gear, but 3rd is close in my opinion. But all depends on the road. But one can not forget top gear, going flat out for a while. I love them all.

    In a TR, it's got to be 2nd -- otherwise you're going to d*mn fast ;)

What? The poll doesn't even list "reverse" as an option? (Hey, that's the gear I use to pull it out of the garage - that's always a good thing.)

3rd feels great and you can get on it all the way without worrying about breaking too many laws.

Actually, I like the 3-4 shift. Moving briskly, a little wind noise, not breaking the law much, and good sounds.

Im a second gear man...On the Ferraris I have driven, second gear always felt strong and powerful.

On my Mustang...well...I beat hte crap out of my second gear! My car is no Ferrari, but when I am at about 2,500rpm and punch it in second, it takes off! 2,500 may not seem like a lot but my redline is below 5,500 :( Also, second is the gear I most frequently heel toe into.

    2nd!
    especially when cold ;)
...or when i had broke my gearstick and had to drive for about 30 miles only in second ...

6th - When I am just trolling to get from a to b. This is when I am busy or on the phone, not driving for sport or the fun of driving. I can negotiate my neighborhood at idle with my foot off the gas going 20 MPH then bump it to 60 on the road just outside. Then punch it when on I-75. I may then arrive at the covered parking area of my office, all in 6th.

Then again, I can take my wife's Murcielago (with permission only) and do the whole thing the same way or do the whole trip in just FIRST gear only.

My car is 3rd. At redline you're only going 85 MPH@6800 RPM's so you can really use it a lot and it sounds great!
