I suspect that's the market for anything but a perfect concours 355 spider, though I wouldn't pay that much. The 360 is headed that way as well. Has any V8 badged as a Ferrari ever held it's value well other than limited production cars such as the 288GTO and F40 ?

BobD, you're correct, the 12s aren't doing any better these days especially the newer 456/550/575 series. Most if not all Ferraris made from the 308 and earlier are now worth more than they sold for new except maybe the 400/412 series. However, with Ferrari now making so many more cars, it is doubtful that that will ever happen to the 328 and newer regular production cars.

 

Keep in mind that even though Ferrari is making more car then they did 10 years ago there are also more people world wide that can afford these cars then 10 years ago.

There's only one reason prices fall... because of lacking demand.

 

Or they fall because of a greater supply. There are lots more to pick from these days.

 

Agree 100% with Agent Smith - there is too much supply. Not only does Ferrari have competitors in that market niche, but let's wake up and smell the lasagne, there are a lot of vehicles in other market segments creeping in for the business with a lot to offer (sometimes for much less).

Well, you might throw in "over supply" in there, too.

 

I thought that all (99%) of cars fall off on value from new and then cycle back up if they have the demand? That cycle usually takes more than 10 or more years doesn't it?

 

Chicken or the egg? Isn't there greater supply due to less demand...? No wonder I failed Econ 101.

 

Looking at Ferrari V8's, the depreciation cycle appears finished once the car reaches 40-45 percent of its original MSRP. That normally occurs about 10 years out from the original sale date. Past performance is no guarantee of future values, however.

As I have said before, if you want to own a Ferrari inexpensively and with a minimum of depreciation, buy the Ferrari of your dreams...but only after it's 10 years old.
