Sponsor Ferrari UK, 16" OEM 328 wheels for less than $250 each. Remakes aren't even that cheap. I think the 308 wheels are a little more expensive though.

go for the 328 rims, see my profile to see how they look on a 308. I bought new from the UK, had a set of repop QV's, wasnt happy with them.

    Newman,

I always thought that the 328 wheels looked great on a 308. Very sharp!

the 328 wheels look great however i have heard that they need spacer plates to mount and i would rather not use spacers.

Which are best? Get the original 16" QV rim. I bought a set three years ago completely refinished for $3k. Not cheap, but there were very nice.

    Hey Dave question?

I have a set of ferrari factory 16" QV rims. I refinished them with silver spray paint. They look fine, but if your a perfectionist they could be refinished. I'm planning on keeping them eventhough I recently replaced them with Compomotive wheels. They have good rubber on them now . What do you think I could get for them?

    Brent,
I bet you could get close to $2k for them. It will cost somebody close to $150-200 per wheel to make them "like new"....maybe a bit more if there are any gouges or dings in them.

How did you get the fronts to fit? Spacers?

I've seen the wheels available at Lyle TAnner's (compared them to an original from the 308 QV I had at the time). Looked perfect and would be tough to tell the difference from an original.

    Fairly simple exercise
    1. You need to fabricate (I had them turned up) new dust caps for the hubs - they need to have a large enough internal diameter to clear the hub nut and a small enough external diameter to fit inside the wheel centre.
This allows the wheel to be fitted.
    2. Having done Item 1, if you wish to retain the wheel centre badge (I chose to), You need to turn up (I used alloy) a centre boss for the wheel that holds the badge. This projects about 1/2" and I used Araldite to secure it to the wheel.
All in all, not a difficult exercise.
    No need to use spacers.
    The rears fit straight on.

I would wait for a set of QV wheels. I bought Daves set after his unfortunate accident. I think they look the best on the 308's. I even like the repros and really like the idea that they are aluminum and would be easy to refinish. I had Daves wheels refinished about a year ago and on a couple yhe paint is starting to bubble. I think the painter used primer which reacted to the base coat? You can see it from 2 feet away but I am a perfectionist.

I must say I agree that the 16" qv's look the most classic. And then again I'm waiting for Robert to have a weak moment and sell me his HRE's... :)

Brent, I purchased a set of 5 (3F,2R) of '85 QV Rims for $2K. They will need refinishing due to weathering; one of the fronts has a slight bead deflection on the inside. This was a very good deal. Unless you need the money to prevent the death of yourself or a loved one...keep the wheels! They are very hard to come by...Or price them with the rubber set of 4 at least $2500!

Please staighten me out on something.

Are the 328 rims identical to 308 just larger?

I want to stay with the curvy lines next to the lugs.

Ones on the left are straight lines at lugs and ones on right are curvy.

I know I am getting a little anal here but just need a bit of education.

ARe the ones on the right 16 inch?

    I believe:

    1. all of the stock 308 wheels (16", 390, 14") have the curvy lines around the lugbolt holes -- it's the non-abs 328 wheels that have the "straight" lines.

    2. non-abs 328 wheels are the same sizes as 308 16" wheels (width, diameter, offsets) -- the only difference is in the grease cap/wheel cap area as discussed here.

    3. abs 328 wheels are still the same width and diameter as 308 16" wheels, but the 328 abs wheel offsets are much larger "+" values.

The jpegs below are stock (Magnesium alloy) 16" 308QV wheels:
