Back in February, I was sitting at a traffic light when a woman in a new GMC Envoy pulled up behind and stopped about 10-15 feet behind me. In a few seconds, "WHAM"! She gets out of her Envoy, almost to the point of tears and says, "I'm so sorry - my foot slipped off of the brake." When the policeman arrived, she told him the same thing. There was never any suggestion I shared any blame what so ever. She has Allstate Insurance, and I contacted them that same day, and the nightmare began. The first adjuster refused to come out to my house to look at my Ferrari (a distance of about 4 miles), so I had to drive it in the rain to her office. Right off the bat she told me in almost 20 yrs, she had never made an estimate on a Ferrari, and it was not in her computer. She said I needed to call the regular adjuster when he got back in a week or two (why she couldn't have told me this on the phone I will never know!) About 2-3 weeks later, I contacted the regular adjuster, and he did come out to my garage to look at it. He, too, said he had never done a Ferrari and it was not in his computer. He said, however, on a 1988 car, the damage could be "pulled out" and repaired, and that a "boat place" could fix the Fiberglass bumper that was nearly broken in half. I told him that was unacceptable, I wanted a shop with Ferrari experience to fix my car. I looked around for shops in the south with Ferrari experience, and like AutoSport BodyWorks in Longwood, Fl. I mailed them a comprehensive video of the car, and they told me they would prepare an estimate. In the meantime, the adjuster from Allstate sends me his estimate of $5800, which did include a $4000 bumper and a $215 heat shield, but none of the other obviously damaged parts. A few days later, I received the estimate from AutoSport for $12,000. I submitted it to the adjuster, and he called and stated "I could either get it fixed locally within his estimate, or do whatever I had to do otherwise." What I am trying to do at this point is find cases where Allstate outside of the rural area I live in has paid to fix Ferraris right at shops with Ferrari experience. I'm sorry for this lengthy post, but I am getting desperate at this point. You can email me at [email protected] if you have had any experiences that might help me. Thanks - Joe Kirkpatrick

Agreed, a real hose job. I sure would not do a crappy repair, instead I'd get the best repair possible, and if they don't pay, sue in a heartbeat. In fact, if I sued it would be for a lot more as you no longer have a perfect "no-stories" car and the resale, even with a perfect repair is lower. Sorry to hear your trouble. Let us know how it turns out. Good luck.

Put your hands together in the "good hands" thing that allstate advertises, but place your middle finger up.

That was told to me by a federal judge that abitrated my dispute with them in 1999. They finally settled for $460,000.

    Their prior offer? $10,000.

Allstate's motto should be: "Deny, delay, don't pay."

Don't do one thing further, not one thing, without an attorney. At this point I would not even talk to the adjuster, or, for that matter, anyone else from allstate. Those people are not your friends.

They count on you being "reasonable" and not getting legal representation.
A call from legal changes the whole process.

Why are you dealing with her insurance company directly in the first place? Didn't you contact your insurance company? Get it fixed through your insurance and let them get the money from Allstate, that's what you pay them for!!

    Jdubbya is right!

We were re-ended in our Q45 and it was completely totaled (we were very lucky!)

Her insurance was State Farm, they wouldn't even pay off our car (idiots!)!
Our insurance (Erie) paid off our car then sued State farm.

You should let your insurance company deal with Allstate. I WOULD NOT call your attorney and start racking your bills up!!!

This is the responsibility of your insurance company and what you pay them for. If they won't do this for you then you should consider changing...

    Been there, done that.

ALLSTATE SUCKS A$$!!!! My wife and I had the misfortune of having to go through the claim process with them. We found that they are the MOST deceitful, dishonest company in the history of the world. They will try everything they can to give it to you without vaseline. Sorry to hear about your experience, and I wish you luck in getting this resolved. You will need it when dealing these crooks my friend.

    Sorry about your problem

I second...well third, what Jdubbya said. Stop talking to Allstate and contact your insurance company. You should have done this right after you had the accident. They should work on your behalf with their attorneys if required. Then if you don't get satisfaction look for a good attorney. Don't settle for anything less then what is fair.

Good luck and keep the thread informed with your progress. Probably wouldn't hurt to let them know your posting this info with thousands interested in the results.

I surprised that you or Allstate didn't contact an independent estimator. There are some listed in FORZA, if anything don't contact your insurance company. Make Allstate pay the full amount, be glad it wasn't FARMERS.

Good luck & keep us posted.

Whats wrong with Farmers????? I use to have Alstate with everything, home, cars and boats. I was with Alstate for many years, until my house got hit by lightning and took out a lot of electronics in my house, it was only about a $6k claim, but right after they payed me, they dropped me.. ( Your in good hands until they don't want you anymore) I then went to Farmers and been with them for a number of years now. Just paying them lots of $$$ but no claims yet, 'knock on wood'..

So, what is the Farmers issue?????

I would say get a couple estimates from Ferrari repair places your self, submit them to the lady's allstate adjuster. If they refuse to pay that, then go through your insurance. The problem going through your insurance, even though it wasn't your falt, it's still a claim on your record until it or if it gets resolved with her insurance..... Good luck....

Before you do anything further, have your car taken to the shop you want it repaired at. Then have your owb insurance company pay for the repair cost and collect your deductable for you from Allstate.

It is of no use to you now, but insure a Ferrari with a speicialist insurance broker. My Hagerty claim was paid out without too much of a fuss. They know that a classic Ferrari takes twice as long to paint, and that parts prices are X times more $ than a regular car. They cater to unreasonable people like ourselves. And they have an exotic program in addition to classic coverage.

As others have said, you really need to have your insurance company pay for the repairs. I got side swiped once on the freeway, and my car got totaled. My insurance company handled the whole thing. Of course like others I'm no longer with them. One bit of advice, get the police report yourself, DO NOT wait for your insurance to get it. Once you have the report in your hand, fax a copy over to the agent handling your claim. This will speed up the process a whole lot. Also when you go to get different insurance, you have the proof that you were not at fault. But what ever you do, STOP talking to the insurance company of the person at fault yourself. The less you talk to them the better for you.

"Your in good hands", hahaha what a joke. It should say, "your MONEY is in good hands". Notice how the logo is two hands held out. That should tip you off right there that their attitude is, gimmee gimmee gimee.

I think that ALL insurance companies SUCK. They are nice to you until you have a claim, then they put on their 'screw You' hat and go to work. Asking you to go to a boat repair shop for the glass work is exactly what I mean. I think that adjusters are sent to 'ignorant training' to be 'all they can be' at their job. Just pathetic in my opinion.

Should you decide to go with a body shop on your own make sure its approved by your co or else they won't cover it if you have a warranty claim.Btw don't forget to get a copy of the written warrenty from the body shop yourself otherwise if you have a problem later on you won't have a leg to stand on.Did i mention getting a copy of warranty from the body shop.

Be careful. There is some correct and incorrect information given to you.

First, beware. Allstate is by far the worst insurance company in the buisness. They have a corporate policy that is as crooked as the day is long. They will screw an insured as quickly as a third party claimant.

DO NOT compromise. They owe you first quality repairs period. (You may want to go to an authorized Ferrari dealer and get them to quote it). First, tell Allstate that they will either pay the full cost of the proper repairs, or you will sue them for "diminished value." "Diminished value" is the amount you will suffer in depreciation due to the fact that your car was hit and repaired. Depending upon the type, year and condition of your car prior to the accident this can be a factor even greater than the amount of repairs. You can tell them that if they fix it you will waive the claim. If they try to mess with you make both claims.

In most states diminished value claims are only compensable from third party insurers. So you must make this claim from the third party insurer, not your own.

If you have problems. Feel free to give me a call.

I called my insurance, Nationwide, today and filed a claim. It has been assigned to an adjuster who is to call me tomorrow. I had previously told Allstate I did not have any injuries (a BIG mistake). When Nationwide asked me, I simply said, "my attorney has advised me to have a complete medical examination done" which is neither yes or no, but something I should have done in the very beginning with Allstate. So if anyone else has a wreck, leave the question on injury open ended - it may provide you much needed leverage in dealing with your claim. I would like to thank everyone who has responded so far, and I will keep you posted on future developments.

This is a situation that really bothers me. I cannot imagine taking a Ferrari to any of the body shops that are in my area. But more frightening is the idea that if I am hit by a person carrying this piss-poor insurance, I would be held hostage by an ignorant adjuster that refuses to consider the difficulty of properly repairing a car as rare as a Ferrari.

My question is this, If you insure your Ferrari with a company familiar with exotics such as Grundy or Haggerty, can you specify that your company will pick up the difference between Allstate, or whatever slimey insurance the other person has, and the actual cost of the repair? Or are you just stuck with a protracted legal battle?

Another question just popped into my head.
If you live in a "No Fault" state, does this problem still exist?

Yup. My Lotus was backed into while I was stopped. I got a Lamborghini place, on reccomendation of a Lotus dealer, look at it. They said $1800. (My guess was 3-400! Just small fibergalss cracks.) The other guy's insurance company sent a guy out who said $1100. Hagerty sent a check for $1800 right away. Later on, after I got my money, they went after the balance. On their time, not mine. Allstate has such a bad reputation, I wouldn't insure anything with them. They are slow pay, and drop you when they do.

I am in Florida and many of the companies you mentio do not even underwrite here in Florida. They have pulled out of this state and some exisisting ones are on thier way out.
Who is a good insurer here in Florida.
I had State farm for twenty years in Illinois and then moved overseas for four years. When I returned to Florida and got two speeding tickets State Farm would not insure me again.
Now I am with Progressive and they are quoting me about 2600 a year for a maranello with a maximum value of 150K
Any other companies better down here?

I have both my wife and I on my Hagerty policy, although we're the only legal drivers in the house. And it's very reasonably priced agreed-value coverage. Everything I've ever heard about them has been outstanding.

Adding to Johns excellent advise, I would go for deminished value in the first place and tell them if they don't then you will rent a car while your car is in repair at the Ferrari shop. Besides there are only very few authorized Ferrari body shops. Classic Coach etc. where you have to ship your car to, enclosed carrier of course. You can make the $12,000 repair bill an easy $ 30,000 repair bill if you wanted to.
They screw you, you screw them.
You will likely need a lawyer to represent you. Maybe John is willing to take that case :)

Since there are no "good" insurance Cos, try Geico. I had excellent quotes from them. Also had a claim with them (not mine) before and they did process quick.
