Hi........... Anyone ever perform a Boxer brake system upgrade ?? What are the best sources for slotted rotors and calipers ?? Do any of these modifications require installation of new wheels for clearance ?? What about aftermarket brake pads ?? Are there any noise- and dust-free high performance street pads for the Boxers ?? Do all Boxers in the series require the same pads ?? Did the BB/LM cars have "trick" brake systems ?? Is there any possible complication with the stock hydraulic system and would an upgrade require a brake bias adjustment via a proportioning valve ? These heavy vehicles could use better brakes. On the caribou performance website they advertise Brembo rotors drilled and solid for boxers as well as various pad options. Maybee they would have some info.
Big AP or Brembo calipers can be squeezed inside the Boxer wheel, but you need to be doing a lot of track work to justify the expense. Good fluid, good pads, steel braided lines, slotted discs (not drilled) and good condition shock absorbers will keep stopping distances acceptable for most occasions........
proir to his passing, i was under the impression that george jonas had done a brake upgrade to his boxer. his company still exists "stainless steel brake corp" ask for michael jonas. he may remember what was done to upgrade. pcb
What use do you have in mind? For road/track, you can scratch around and find some usefull 15" tyres and retain the std wheel, but if you want to go hard on the track, you'll need to get some 16" wheels built to give greater tyre choice. My almost std road/track 512BB has Pirelli P600 front and P7R rear on the std wheels, I can lap all day within cooee of 355's on std tyres at Silverstone or Thruxton or the long track at Brands Hatch. Slower tracks make it harder though.
