Recently acquired Dino has a cigarette lighter that I would like to use in order to connect a battery conditioner. Alas, I can press said lighter in but cannot seem to pull it out in order to insert the conditioner. I don't want to use force if I am missing some subtlety of Italian design. Am I missing something, or is this an absolutely standard design? In any case, does the lighter work ignition off? And finally, any recommendations for battery conditioners?

get a battery tender instead. It has a permanent plug that you connect to the battery, and the cable can extend through the hood with a small plug on the end.

Hooks up to the external power supply. Unplug it when you're ready, and away you go!

I use one on my TR6 and on my Dino. They work great.

I've never used the lighter on my Dino, so I don't know if what you are observing is normal. Figure it won't pop out if it won't heat up. Maybe you have a dead element, of a dead fuse?

here's the deal..quit pulling on it!!

These older cars use a "hole in the wall" style element. It does NOT come out!

When you push the outer ring in, the element deep inside the inner tube is glowing red hot, the intent is to insert a full length cigarette in this tube, light it, then pull it out!

don't work worth a damn on the shorties...lol

that's the deal...replace it with a modern pop out style if you want to..... save the old one for concours! you can see why BIC got to be such a big company, eh?

Sounds like that might be a personal problem unrelated to his lighter!!!

similar design to industrial plant areas where individual lighters are not allowed....

wall outlet is a heater element with a push button to energize..

credit my industrial upbringing...brewing gasoline for all you guys!!

mine still works in my '77s.....

OK. Thanks. So, either convert to a 'normal' lighter (if power when ignition is off) or fit a special purpose plug to the battery.

    Cheers.

there are actual different sizes of the lighters. not only in length, but in inner dimension as well. these lighters are not difficult to find. i would not recommend anyone changing out the lighter. if you insist on doing so, at least replace it with a period correct lighter.
