    Imperial83 actually races Karts?

From what I've witnessed on Fchat recently, I wouldn't have thought he could race a wheelbarrow to the compost heap...

    Pete,

A question for you. You say in this post that MS "WILL definitely have a go if given half a chance." Then you say in regard to JPM, "If he had a go I would definitely think about letting him through to save my race ..." Considering your perception of MS and the fact that you are saying you would let someone by to save your race, how do you know that this is not the case with RB in the first restart at the USGP? Maybe RB knows very well that MS is going to do everything he can to get by and RB figures discretion is the better part of valor. You have been slamming RB for not doing more to stop MS getting by, so which is it? Was RB "saving his race" or is he just a doormat for MS to wipe his feet on as he goes by?

    owsi,

Arh very intelligent reply. First of all I need to say that I would only ever let someone by to save my race if it was near the end of a series and I was thinking about points. I did actually let someone go by once in the 2nd or last race of the series because I knew that he was not a threat to me. Funny thing is my mate watching was super pissed at me and could not understand ...

Thus I need to correct my comments:

MS: Yep definitely have a go if given half a chance ... thus don't give him a chance.

JPM: Sometimes when JPM has a go there really is little chance of it pulling off, but atleast he has a go. This is something you need to think about if you are battling with JPM.

Otherwise yes I can agree that RB might have been thinking about saving his race ... but not at the USGP. RB had the WHOLE straight and the corner before it to do something to fix his mistake on restart (ie. wheelspin). There was no danger to his car or himself, all he had to do was lift off and force MS to lift more to get behind him ... remember up until they get to the start finish line it is still yellow flag conditions so RB was in total control, or should have been.

Instead RB allowed MS to get up the inside and dominate his position on the track. Game over, and game over happened not at the end of the straight but 50 yards after RB accelerated out of the corner on to the straight complex. That is when the pass started and when RB should have done something about it ... IMO.

Well i do not claim to be a racer. All I have is a little go karting experience. Still do a little karting just for a the fun of it.

Any way like I said before...

OPTION 1) Be safe, win the drivers' and constructors' world championship
OPTION 2) Drive like a maniac and kill yourself
OPTION 3) Give your teammate a thumping and crash both cars

Oh this is such a hard choice... decsions decisions... what are Ferrari, MS and RB going to do? What will they do?

I say let us see them thump each other out of the remaining races... golly then we can have a thumping good time... they will be real racers if they give each other a thumping and thump each other out on turn 1.

Everyone that would like to see both Ferrari cars crash out of the remainder of the races please raise your hand?
Thank you now those who raised their hands, can you call yourselves Williams fans and have a thumping good time seeing your cars never finish another race.

On to Magny Cours and another Ferrari 1 - 2!!!!

The argument about the two Ferraris taking each other out is a valid one IMHO. I was thinking about Canada and Indy where I thought that it was obvious RB was faster. However what we don't know is really how hard is MS trying? It could be that RB gives it his 100%, whereas MS drones around just fast enough to be ahead of #3. So from that perspective it does make sense to hold RB back, after all this season is about preserving the engine.

So I don't think MS and RB would do a JPM/RS stint and just knock each other out, but they might race each other to the point that an engine reaches its limit.

The point I don't get about imperial83's statement is the joy about another 1-2. Maybe I'm jaded (and don't deserve to call myself a tifosi anymore), but I wouldn't mind seeing somebody else win for a change. Just for once.

Well you see I remember all those years when each victory was dear and it took so much time to even see a Ferrari driver on the podium. Human memory is very short. I have loved every minute of Formula 1 racing since 1999. Ferrari, Michael and Rubens deserve all the points they are getting and all the victories. The people that complain state Rubens' is not a racer and Michael is only winning because Rubens' is not pushing him will be the people who are first in line whinning when Ferrari go through another decade or so without a Ferrari winning the title.

As I said human memory is very short. I was there when Williams and McLarens dominated the 80's and 90's. Patience is a virtue. But now its all about the next Ferrari 1 - 2 !!!

I was there as well. And the reason I'd like to see somebody else win for once is to savour the moment even more when the red cars win again. It's kinda like drinking a couple of glasses of water between sips of a great red. Don't just pour it down, savour the moment.

PS: I wouldn't be surprised if Michelin pulls out all the stops to have one of their cars win in France.

I should be studying but I'll chip in here and avoid discussing MS except to say that the true measure of his character was in repeatedly driving past his brother slumped motionless in the remains of the Williams.

Back to the discussion. Rubens has been #2 for a while and it may be that the BARs and Renaults are slowly getting closer to Ferrari. When (or maybe if) either of these is a quick as the Ferrari then staying stuck as #2 at Ferrari isn't the best place to be if you want a crack at the drivers title. And yet there may not be a drive available with any other front running teams when (if) that time comes. Do you stay bridesmaid or do you go?

I was thinking about that myself. To his defense he was probably in radio contact with pit lane and knew what was going on. But it was a far cry from the sixties or seventies when other racers immediately stopped to attend to a fallen comrade let alone brother (note: Lauda wouldn't have survived Nuerburgring without help from other drivers). Then again, MS didn't stop for Senna either. However it is questionable whether today's drivers are even expected to. If it were my brother, I had stopped though.

So you Michael to stop his car, get out of it in the middle of the track to go rescue his brother? yes that would have been real smart and passionate. Create more obstacles for the marshals to clear on a track already scattered with debris. If you want to blame anyone, blame Charlie Whiting, the idiot that did not red flag the race.

Michael showed his true grit, determination and strong character by believing in the Marshals and the rescue personell. Michael looked at the debris several times and slowed down everytime he passed by his brother to see him. Hind sight also tells us he was in constant Radio communication with his team and was asking about his brother condition. How another racer could have completed the race if their brother was being taken in a hospital. Michael showed that he is a true champ that knows the show must go on. He was comforted a little bit by the fact when he was Radioed the message that Ralf wanted to get out of the car by himself but the ambulance and rescue staff was a precautionary measure.

Michael is a very passionate and very smart driver. I bet you every single one of the race drivers that day wanted to stop their car and help Ralf including Michael. Atleast most of them had the brains not to and let the trained rescue staff do their job.

Yes tifosi12, Michelin will pull out all the stops for France but they don't have a Ferrari to power them to the finish line. Ferrari 1 - 2!!!

There is a big difference though mate. In the 80's and 90's we still had racing. Arguably the best racing F1 has ever seen was when Prost and Senna both in McLarens were fighting it out. Just awesome stuff and a far cry from the demonstration runs we are watching today.

Note also that Prost and Senna when both racing hard against each other in the same team only took each other out once (I believe), thus this nonsense that you have that battling racing drivers always end up hitting each other is rubbish.

As Tifosi said Ferrari getting another 1 2 is NOT exciting because they are not having to try hard. Ferrari getting another hard fought win after a race long battle when the crowd is left breathless in awe of the effort is what I long for. Puttering around like they are now is unbelievably boring, especially with RB allowing MS to do what he likes when he likes ... :(

Anyway work beckons ... and yes I should not have answered but could not help it ;)

Peronally i think Sato will win before Barichello. I hope he does. He's a great guy. We sat next to him and Button thurs. night at dinner. Both nice guys. Sato consistently drove the wheels off his car sunday. He posted extremely fast laps all race.

Please continue to be ignorant about all the hard work the Ferrari team is putting in and for every deserving victory!

So a Mclaren or Williams 1 - 2 is great racing, A Ferrari 1 - 2 is staged sorry unethical boring bad for the sport cheating... OK I get your logic! Sounds good!

    Imperial83,

That is not what I said. What we had was a McLaren team with the 2 top drivers and NO team orders. One year Prost would win the WC the next Senna and so on.

Now as much as I respect RB he is far from the 2nd best driver currently in F1 and we know that Ferrari (MS probably) have a policy of hiring a much lower talent as the second driver. We also know that Ferrari use their second driver to help MS (and before you get upset about that comment, remember they made RB enter the pits slowly holding up the rest of the field when RS had his accident at the USGP, this allowed MS to get an advantage ... so they still do it).

We did have one very boring year when Williams won with Prost driving as nobody was in the same league as the driver and car combination, but most other years we had a McLaren versus Williams battle or McLaren versus McLaren battle. Now we have nothing as MS is so far better than RB it is not funny, thus even if they appear to be racing I bet if MS really wanted to he could pull out another couple of seconds gap in 5 laps and good bye RB.

Now this is not 100% Ferrari's fault as the other teams cars are not good, but if Ferrari would stop playing team orders we would have exciting racing again, by this I mean hire Alonso, Sato even as number 2, and ensure that he does not have a sentence in his contract that says he must allow MS to win ... which we KNOW RB has or did have in his contract.

So yes currently watching RB follow MS around is boring, and I do not get a great thrill from seeing another win for Ferrari. When MS would beat Hakenin in the super fast McLaren I would be a very happy Tifosi ... that was great to watch :)

You see I've always believed that a hard fought win is more satisfying than an easy win. How can MS be motivated when the only competition is RB and you and I, everybody, has correctly stated that MS is head and shoulders faster than RB ... and RB has been an impotent number 2 for so long he does not remember how to be competitive.

    Brian,

Just imagine how fast Sato would be in a Ferrari. With that never give up attitude it would be fantastic ...

Barrichello is driving the best car by far on the grid so naturally his laps are fast. Sato is giving Button a hard time thus he does appear to be fast, and he really deserved that third place as the whole race long he gave it his all. If BAR had pitted when RS had his accident I bet Sato would have been pushing the Ferraris ... man that would have been exciting to watch.

Consider that success in WDC and WCC, given the current flat point scheme, rewards reliability and consistency far more so than dramatic wins. Given that, a lot of Ferrari's success is derived from the incredible reliability of the cars. Consider that the reliability of those cars is tremendously aided by the fact that MS and RB get sooo far ahead early in the race that they can cruise the latter half of it.

Soooo, if RB starts doing as you guys are begging... if rather than testing MS for a bit until he finds that beating him is not a reality and then backs off so that both Ferraris finish... if instead he pressured MS as much as possible until he made a mistake (as either would to JPM or Alonso or whoever), then the Ferraris would finish 1-2 much less often... reliability of the Ferraris is probably not that good.

Consider the commentary the week prior that RB was pressuring hard for a while and then dropped back... why?... because his brakes were starting to go. He wants to finish first... but if that involves significant likelihood of getting no points, he'd rather take the 2nd place points and stay in the hunt.

Finally, consider this... all it would take is a little rash of bad luck... JPM bumps, blown engines, random shrapnel from prior accident, whatever... where MS doesn't finish the race a few times, and RB will have the lead in the WDC. Given the current points system, a 2nd is almost as good as first... and MS's luck could easily run dry for a while.

And then we would have seen Sato ram into Rubens side in a kamakazee stunt.
Then he would have to pit to get a nose replacement
Then Sato would have ended up in 4th.
Then his engine would have blown up again due to overheating in the extra pit stop.

Yes I agree... much better scenario... I think I have seen it happen before!!!

Some of you will deny it... but I guarantee you'd be *****ing big time about Ferrari's incompetence in pairing Sato with MS after he'd taken out himself and MS twice, and drove his car into failures every other race. Ferrari would have only the slimmest of lead in the WCC. It would be "exciting"... but you'd be hating on Ferrari's #2 much worse than you are now... you'd say things like "Ferrari could have a good lead in the series if he wasn't such an idiot!"

Now, now... don't deny it! You know its true! ;) :D ;)
