I like the idea of augmenting the sound of my 348, but to be honest I am somewhat confused about the various systems available. Apologies for being totally "green" when it comes to this; I`m learning the f-car world steadily after three months of ownership ;-)

Could someone please briefly summarise the options available - sports exhaust/test pipes/de-catting... and how do you stand from a legal perspective in terms of noise levels (road legality) and also the all important emissions test come MOT time?

Any idea of prices and suppliers would also be much appreciated. I would imagine that there isn`t a specialist too close to me for this; I`m tucked away up in east yorkshire!

    Cheers guys.. Geoff

    Hi Geoff,
see the thread below for various exhaust systems. Most people on here have Tubi's , myself included.Andy HLS has a de-cat Tubi on his 348 and it's the best sounding exhaust this side of a Stradale, IMO.

I have put a Scuderia System's link to Tubi products on as well so you can see the difference between systems. Prices range from around £1.5 k for back box to £2.2 k for full de-cat.The de-cat cars will PROBABLY pass emissions test at MOT time, depending on MOT tester !
    Good Luck

    Tony,

Reference the comment on the website against the tubi exhausts which states "for racing use only", does this basically mean they are illegal for general road use from a noise point of view? I was at the start of the Supercar Run last weekend and some of the 360's were making a fantastic noise, but I have to admit, they seemed to be the wrong side of legal to me!

    Cheers,

    Dem.

Thanks for the info Tony, that`s a useful thread. And Dem`s comment above is something that I had in mind when I posted; the old "for race use only" covers the manufacturer I guess, with all the users taking a bit of a chance with plod. I reckon I`ll plump for the Tubi though, as they do appear to transform the whole driving experience significantly. Cheers.

My limited understanding of the law following a quick look on the web is that it is illegal to modify a vehicles exhaust so that it allows more noise emmissions, and the upper noise limit is that specified in the EU drive-by noise regs.

I suspect that Tubi'd et al Ferraris will be unlucky to encounter any difficulties with Plod so long as they are being driven considerately and don't give anyone cause to complain. There are enough poxy motorcycles going past my house with exhausts far louder and mnore obnoxious sounding than a Ferrari's. Not to mention Transit vans, which have to be the worst sounding vehcles ever (like most diesels frankly)

I am doing a Prescott Hillclimb school day at the end of July in the 355 with Tubi silencer. It wil be interesting to see if I'm allowed up the hill...

    Robert.
