Rob Not at all. All I was saying that while many do seem to care about 0-100, 1/4 mile, standing mile, 1000hp Slammers, nos enhanced 20-150mph, 0-60, IMO there's a bit more to it and endurance sportscar racing, at least for me, is a better test of what's fast and what's gonna be left behind. Best

I dont race my cars at Lemans, who does on this forum? So who really cares. Rob, I think the 360 would catch the whatever it is before 2 miles, probably 1.25 to be precise.
6.0 se and others, I think what Napolis is trying to say is that racing down the 1/4 mile or any under 1 minute race does not require much engineering. Do you think you would be able to take a standard F360, Diablo, EVO straight to a track and say complete a 1 hour race and full racing speeds? I think they would all struggle ... and the most likely to finish would be the EVO (because it is Japanese and nobody, yep nobody makes better cars for reliability, etc. than the Japanese). It is very easy to shove power into a car and make it record super fast acceleration figures for those oh so pointless magazine articles (or though I cannot think of a better method, other than long distance average speed tests, etc.) because you do not have to worry about engine cooling, brake cooling, etc. and all the REAL things that make a car a true performance car. Take my favourite modern Ferrari the F40, fantastically bloody fast car over say 2 laps but then it sh!ts its pants, and when a car fails ... guess what the slower cars catch up and pass them . I think the whole point of Le Mans and other 24 hour races, was for manufacturers to be able to stand back and give the single finger to all other manufacturers and say 'suck on that baby' ... and that is why Napolis is justified in his comments about his Ford, as is McLaren with their F1. Not only are these cars fncken fast in acceleration, etc. they can maintain that performance all day and all night, etc. ... just think how happy that would make our partners Credience again has to be given to the WRX and EVO rally car versions because those cars can take a hammering over many days in the WRC ... saying that they do seem to replace just about everything at each service In conclusion this is why most people into performance cars really do not take the 1/4 mile and straight line acceleration figures that seriously. Yes ofcourse if your car is faster in a straight line that is an advantage, but in the real world, we do not stop and do standing starts everywhere ... instead we are winding through/over our favourite stretch of tar seal and thus what really counts is acceleration out of corners in say 2nd or 3rd gear and braking performance into the next corner ... which also happens to be what counts on most race tracks. That is why Alfa Romeo cars as humble as they are do okay on race tracks all over the world ... they are not fast at all in a straight line, but show them a corner and use the ratios and they will surprise many much bigger and supposedly faster cars ... they also will happily do this longer than the driver will Pete's thoughts ps: I case you did not know I'm an Alfa Romeo nut
I know what he's trying to say. It just doesnt apply to the question, thats all I said. The question was about a 360 VS. some whatever to a mile. And I will add this. I race quarter miles, and mile shootouts, so the question is understandable to me. I dont run endurance racing, never will.
Yes i agree with Bart, The 550/575 has more torque to horsepower ratio so i think that would be a better site to see. In this Motor Trend (i know motor trash but save it) test of the 575, there was this long straight i think like 5,000 ft. and coming around the corner i think the Ferrari was doing like 75 maybe around the corner and it got up too 186 before the driver had to start braking for the next corner. So i belive that the 550/575 would give the evo a better run for its money Standing Mile Times for both (stock): Ferrari 575: 31.4@ 166.1 Mph Evo (stock): 35.1@ 142.4 Mph you be the judge
Well just think the 360 will loose, as it was not designed for that. Why this thread was even started is beyond me?, because again I could modify a Ford 10 tone truck to out run a 360 in the 1/4 mile and mile shootout. Ferrari did not design a car to win these contests so against a modified EVO it will loose ... Somebody has posted the figures recorded for the 360 ... that is the end of the discussion isn't it? Pete's a little confused why this thread is still going when a magazine did the times and wrote them down for all of us to see EDIT: But 2 miles even 1.25 miles is AFTER the end of the race ... so Ferrari 360 looses and thus who cares if and when or ever the Ferrari may catch up?. Is it not this black and white?, or am I missing something?

Probably the Ferrari. One advantage and disadvantage the EVO has is its all wheel drive. It would probably win teh 1/8 mile and also the 1/4. But awd cars at speed are bad. I'm not a physicist so I don't know why, but i hear all the time how they destroy cars off the line, but when going from a roll they just can't keep up to cars of an equal status.
To me it sounds like the Ferrari would catch up eventually, if not within the one mile limit. *Notes the drag racing bashing taking place*
The Ferrari driver wins - since the EVO driver, whether he gets to the mile marker 1st or 2nd is still sitting in a Subaru.
without a doubt I would take 1 360 over 7 evo's thats not in question though... I have to disagree i think that the standing mile is a fairly decent measure of a cars acceleration abilities. Thus roughly reflecting how it would perform on a track compared to another car.

Turb0flat4: But he does raise a good point. In the end of the race, one man is in a Ferrari 360 with probably the meanest sounding car ever, and the other in a modified.. well.. it's still a Mitsubishi. It doesn't take a lot of skill these days to make a car into a 1/4 dragger.
But he isn't right to put down these cars as "ricers" because that's just dumb and bigoted. They may be cheap (Evo and STi) but even stock, they're very fast cars. And they're not just drag cars, they can handle too. Plus they'll probably leave F-cars behind in snow (AWD). A great performance package for a small budget. And racing heritage (WRC) to boot. To not see these things and dismiss them as "ricers" is just plain stupid. Plus he obviously doesn't have a clue about other car makes and I called him on it. I would expect a performance enthusiast to at least have a clue about other good makes, I know a lot of local F-car owners who have knowledge of and respect for STis and Evos (we meet at track days). This guy, in contrast, is obviously a snob who considers these cars beneath him, so I had no qualms about sticking it to him.
