Just heard the news. What a great actor.
Definitely a great actor. I never knew anything about his personal life though... a little bizarre. This is from Fox News article (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,124583,00.html) : Brando's years of self-indulgence became apparent later in his life. He weighed well over 300 pounds in the mid-1990s. Brandos personal life has been marred by unhappiness. As the son of alcoholic, distant, sexually promiscuous parents, Brando had a troubled childhood. He has been married three times to three ex-actresses and has at least 11 children ranging in age from two to 38. Five are the children of his ex-wives, three are those of his Guatemalan housekeeper and three are from his other affairs. One of his children, Christian, is serving a 10-year sentence in California state prison for voluntary manslaughter in the death of his sister Cheyenne's fiance, Dag Drollet. Christian claimed Drollet was physically abusing his pregnant sister and said he accidentally shot Drollet in the face during a struggle. Brando, in the house at the time, gave mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to Drollet and called 911. Brando's daughter Cheyenne, in and out of drug rehabilitation centers and mental institutions, later was declared too depressed to raise her child, custody of whom was given to her mother. Cheyenne hanged herself on Easter Sunday in 1995. "I tried to be a good father," People magazine reported Brando as saying on the witness stand during his son Christian's trial. "I did the best I could."
I don't think mouth to mouth works with bullets.... RIP, a great actor and I'm sure a good father, you can't always help how your kids turn out......
Jesus, that's sad I never knew. He was an inspiring actor, especially with some of his earlier work. Anyone ever see "Guys and Dolls"? That part seems most memorable. -DC
He was extremely private in his personal life, thats why we never heard much of him. He definitely was a great actor, may he rest in peace.
I think an interesting bit of "trivia" is that, while the song "Luck Be a Lady" is strongly associated with Sinatra, it is sung in the film by Brando.
His name IS Marlon Brando. bobleb, You're correct. What's more is that Sinatra threw a big fit when Brando got the part of Sky Masterson because he wanted it for himself! Sinatra nearly didn't go through with it because of this. -DC
