Everything is possible, that's not the issue. Just whether we want to or not. Right now I don't think so, but agree with Speedy that more people should fill out their profile.
OK! now we have to spell everything out... W h a t s h o u l d w e d o a b o u t t h e s e y o u n g F c a r f a n s ?
The more I think about it the more I like the idea...I really need to know to whom I am speaking (or writing in this case) and checking everyone's profile is a waste of time. The different age designations is a great idea and gets my vote...and I dont care who knows I am vintage or supervintage for that matter
Hey Ricky! Jus' a joke, mate.... I think its pretty normal that internet savvy youngsters find us here. Glad to have you, as far as I'm concernd..... "You should always treat a youngster as the adult they are capable of becoming.." That's what I try to do.....
I've long advocated that Rob turn on the signature function so that people at least know what cars you have - however, that doesn't appear to be something that he wants to do (no images in signatures, just text). -Wayne
I admit when I thought up this idea I had no conception of how people would react. I was ready to duck and cover. But, overwhelmingly, there seems to be agreement that it would be helpful. I'm just going by the post that I read in the thread. So, I have to ask why you don't think we want it now? Filling out the profile is helpful, but frankly I don't want to have to click on a profile just to learn this little bit of info. Rob, I subscribed rossa for 5 years to support you. I wouldn't sugget it if I wasn't planning on staying around or didn't think we would all benefit from it. I would appreciate a little more thought on the issue.
Hey Ricky, I for one like it...... I hope you learn a lot and think you all add to the value of the board. You keep the Ferrari dreams alive.......
Don't misunderstand, I didn't mean nothing FOR them...I meant nothing TO them...as long as they are positive with their input. I probably hold some kind of record for "kids in the car, fingerprints on the windows" in one days time....... I sent zupra a big box of swag, just now!
I think this is a good idea. While there will always be exceptions -- for example, very technically astute 15-year olds, as well as very clueless / annoying 50-year olds -- by and large, it is fair to say there is a correlation in the maturity / clarity / nature of posts between younger people and older people. I think identifying which bucket you fall into would be beneficial for the community. Rather than leading to stereotyping, I think it would engender the community by providing a perspective to others that might not otherwise be readily apparent. I can see how people would go both ways on this, but I would certainly support something of this sort.
Good question.... What if your: mentally preproduction think your sport actuall age is classic and sometimes you feel vintage? Ave Fchater?
I would appreciate a dictionary of abbreviations. I can figure most of them out but some leave me dumbfounded. I know they are probably standard internet stuff, but I only visit this chat site. TFL (thanks for listening) SYL (see you later) BTW, I guess this makes me "vintage". Not sure I like that too much. Thanks, Scott
This topic has been brought up again in the silver subscribed area. So, I added a poll to see if people are interested in this.
I haven't taken time to read the 70 posts, but... I disagree with any age classification or identification. Users should be judged by the content and nature of their posts. I've seen 16 year olds be very mature and act older while several older users act like kids. The only time it becomes an issue is when a user is 12 and someone jumps on them for acting like a kid (the Bruce incident). Also, with some of the older users you have to be a little more patient as they didn't grow up with the internet and Playstation. Also, please make your titles more descriptive, don't just say "ferrarichat.com thoughts". #1, there's a profile for everyone to provide more personal information. #2, there's no way to verify anyones age or profile information if they want to lie.
Rob, way to put a damper on the idea. In an earlier post you stated "I'm always open to ideas. I like to think that users make the changes and not me." I'm not sure how your last post supports this thought. I'm a user, in fact Rossa 5 year. I did it to support you and your board. Maybe you should read the posts in this thread before passing judgement. There are some that are very well thought out. In our everyday life we meet people through personal contact and are able to use our judgement and experience to help better the communication. Without this interaction, we are at a disadvantage. I see it as a positive step for the Ferrarichat community to assist with what is commonly lacking in cyber space. Certainly people can lie..... this isn't about "cheating". There is no advantage to cheat. If some few want to scam, so be it.... who cares. The board has many subscribers who would value this information for better social communication. A couple of notes.... 1. I was only on the board a couple of weeks when I posted this. If you look at the threads I have started they all have descriptive titles. 2. I understand there is a profile. I think it would be nice not to have to click on someone's profile just to get this little bit of information.
I like the idea, but the ranges provided in the initial post is a bit too vague. Some who is 21 doesn't behave that differently from someone who is 17, while someone who is 26 general behaves very different from someone who is 21. Yet there is no way to differentiate between someone who is 26 and 21, but there is way to differentiate between 21 and 17.
