Well, my beater 308GTBs excepted, Ferraris are to most expensive and hardest to fix, due to parts availability mostly....and lots of them HAVE burned.

The 360 Challenge at Indy blew an oil cooler line IIRC, and that car was TOTALLY involved by the time he made half a lap. Quite impressive!

My cars have caught fire but not from this problem... but a messy engine compartment IS hard to put out, once burning....ask me how I know! lol

You CAN use regular gas in a 1977 308GTB.

    8.0 compression, no problem!

    Same,
I had an xjs v12, that developed a fuel leak. When it caught fire, all the oil that had been leaking from the valve covers ignited, and it was all she wrote.

How come the oil splashing in the block, up near the heads and close to the exhaust valves, where it is suppose to be, doesn't ignite? There's plenty of oxygen in the crankcase.

    Wayne,

Add Old Brit Car guys to the list and you get the fourth option. These guys just about faint if the car DOESN'T have at least three major oil leaks.

Any car that sits for more than a few hours without leaving a big smear of oil is considered a replica, and instantly disqualified from any competition.

They all park over a flattened cardboard box in the garage, and change the box weekly.

I know, 'cause I have a TR6 leaving a trail as we speak.

The block is not very hot. Aluminum cannot stand high temperature. The water coolant takes the heat away.

Summary: Over 2 dozen 2003-2004 Honda CR-Vs have burned down because of oil dripping onto the exhaust. The reason the link is worth checking out is that (for me, at least) there's an ad for a local Honda dealership on the news page! LOL

I did replace the hose. What surprised me was that the drip was under the main bolt by the oil filter. There was a lot of oil on the top of the block, which tells me that at pressure, the hose WAS spraying out the oil. With the new hose, my oil pressure went up a bit on the guage!

    Agree with Fixer and others:

I saw a Fiero on fire from an oil cap falling off, (or left off) - spreyed oil all over the exhaust.

Makes a hell of a mess.

Could get a lot worse & lose ALL of the oil - wouldn't take long. Your first clue would be lots of smoke or a rattling engine - not good either.

    your call,
    chris
