After the "success" of Tuesdays event, I'm curious what the opinion here is?

    Good
    Nice and near to me.
    A big, exciting event.

    Bad
London will have to be closed for a week.
    Where would you put Grandstands?
How would you charge for and event on public streets?
All the streets in question would have to be resurfaced, with kerbs, lamposts, bustops, traffic lights, drains removed or relocated.
Virtually no runoff space (visions of a smoking Minardi parked in Hamleys front window!).
Even if they resurfaced the roads, 51 weeks of the year that would have taxis and buses spilling diesel onto the road surface, so if it were smooth, it'd be like an ice rink.

It's a great idea, but not one I think they will be able to put into practise.

If they run it through the centre, there will be no room for grandstands. If they run it past the parks, they'll have to close too many major roads.

Stig we had the brum super prix(f-3000 plus suport races) was good to see this on the streets but viewing was crap, the london idea would probably turn the capital in to mayhem, even though i think it would be a good idea,

    cheers
    Dale.

Shouldn't cars, engines and chassis developed at a cost of 100's of millions of pounds be allowed to inhabite their natural habitat? As in a race track. Running these cars around London is just kind of pointless.

We would end up with a poor mans Monaco - anyone remember the race in Ceasers Palace car park ? I do. It was crap.

What would you all rather see - driver's going arse out round Eau Rouge or tootling Down Park lane waving at the sponsors tents ?

Sod London - Bring back Spa !

I think it's a stupid idea. There just isn't enough space to house all the facilities that are required. Bernie thinks Silverstone is bad, can't imagine a London circuit knocked up in 7 days would be better.

It's a great idea for Mr Livingstone - think of the congestion charging he could rack up!

As a genuine idea it would have to be capable of being watched which means either parks or roads with lots of space next to them which will be hard to do. I'm not too bothered about diverting traffic as London traffic in the centre is nowhere near as bad as it used to be with nearly every vehicle being a taxi, a bus or a white van of some sort.

Redoing the roads would be neaded but that's needs to be done anyway given the shocking condition soem of the roads are in right now.

It would be very hard to overtake so the races may well prove to be dull although I have to say that for the first time in ages I enjoyed this years Monaco GP.

All in all I guess I'm not too concerned either way

    Hey everyone.

I would love to see a London Grand Prix. Modern day racetracks are just sooo boring - might be an f1 cars proper habitat but if f1 wants to remain a spectacle, half the circuits need to be axed. They're more a technical exercise than a challenge - relentless chicanes with loads of boring mid-low speed corners with very few opportunities to overtake.

There's nothing like a street circuit to convey the sensation of speed instead of the bland expanse of some dull circuit like Magny Cours or Jerez...... As long as the GP can be made safe then there's nothing to worry about - deisel, potholes and white lines in the road just mean that the F1 drvers will have to WORK for a change instead worrying about their sunglasses - whingers...

P.S. I don't think it would be "poor mans Monaco" at all - most of the monaco jet set will simply use their summer houses in Mayfair/Ken/Chelsea as a base for the GP.. cool.
