On a previous thread this issue was touched on but not expanded on, so I'm wondering if George or others would like to comment on this topic.

It seems like most cars came with lacquer based dyes, yet several are touting water based dye as somehow better. Does anyone have an idea what the benefits of each are/were, and why one would now choose one over the other?

OLD Ferraris had lacquer-based dyes... the new ones are all water-based dyes. Would you paint a good pair of leather shoes with LACQUER? Of course not... it would make them lose some of the softness and the leather would no longer breathe.

Today's technology with water-based dyes (and paints) is much better than in the 70's and 80's. Re-dye with water-based.
