I did a quick search and several people posted reviews of their Dell vs. iPod numerous months ago so I am looking for a fresh review of this product. My brother has the Mini iPod and swears by it. I have a Dell PC at home and use the Music Jukebox a lot. It is silly easy to use and with some better speakers would sound pretty decent.

Dell has a handheld version that holds a lot more songs then the Mini iPod for $50.00 less. 99% of the use will be in the car for my 2 hour round trip commute. I only own <140 CD's so I do not need crazy GB of hard drive space. I just want a reliable, easy to use, and something that will sound pretty good in my car.

    Thanks for the help.

My sister's a music major, so she's constantly listening to music. Many of her friends have iPods. She ended up getting the Dell instead.

She loves it and uses it all the time. Extremely easy to use, about the same size, and cheaper if I remember correctly.

For car use, though, I have to give the nod to iPod. There's an iPod attachment that transmits to your car stereo and the sound is crystal clear. I was skeptical at first, but when my friend's dad showed me it, I was absolutely amazed. No distortion, no wires to the stereo. Unless Dell has a similar attachment, you might want to go for the iPod for car use.

BTW, ever give any thought to audio books? I'm in the car quite often, and I go through tons of books that way. I thought I'd hate it, but you get really into the stories and actually want to spend more time in the commute...

That depends on the car! In some of my cars the transmitter works well, in others (with the antenna in the rear or side glass), not so good. In them we use the cassette adaptor. It works well if you remember to turn the Dolby "OFF".

I love books on tape and CD. Need to go get some more. The library has a lot on tape but usually the third or fourth tape doesn't work and I never find out how the story ends.

So it transmits wirelessly? and works with any car stereo this way?

I think it transmits through FM.

If I was going to get one of the units I was going to get the cassette attachment option. My brother and I have the same model car and he uses the cassette option. I think it sounds pretty good.

I know they offer the FM demodulator option and read good reviews too.

As for the books on tape. Snoooooooooooooooore :). I am really a music nut so I would prefer to unwind with some Distrurbed or Queensryche blasting on my radio :)

    Thanks guys,

    Mike

    Exactly.

I have one of these for my iPod, and it's awesome. It let's you broadcast on any FM frequency for a range of 30ft or so. Lots of mischief potential :D

My iPod(3rd generation 20GB) and accessories are currently for sale if anyone is interested.

Hey all - I just hard-wired my Ipod mini into my truck. Let me tell you this is the coolest product ever. It holds 1,000 songs. With the hook-up I did it's pure plug & play, and sounds perfect. The FM transmitter is good, but the sound quality is not up to the same quality as a direct line-in. For more info, check out this forum:

Feel free to ask me any questions, I am very psyched about this. It's basically what BMW is now offering................
