F355 Exhaust bypass valve

A very simple question - where can I get a replacement exhaust bypass valve for my '96 F355 Berlinetta at the LOWEST possible price? I refuse to pay the fantasyland extortionate price that Ferrari charges for such a stupid and failure-prone part.

I'm going to miss a very nice Ferrari meeting in Germany tomorrow because of this stupid failure...

Any info will be very welcome.

 

Im afraid the only place that you can get this from is ferrari. Ive had a specialistmanitain he cab fix them( that never worked) and ive had 2 units replaced thus far.

Seems we are stuck!

 

You might be able to pick up a reconditioned one from a specialist ; that happens here a lot.

Why are you going to miss the meet? just wire it open until you can get a new/ replacement one.

The Ferrari F355 by-pass valve is manufactured by "PIERBURG". It's a German company (http://www.kolbenschmidt.de/).

I could not find myself the F355 by-pass valve model on their Web site. May be this model is too old.

Thanks to the product number (7-22151-02) PIERBURG may be able to give you the price. At least if they have the right to directly sale this product.

I know that from Ferrari, this valve is charge a premium (around 700 USD).

Thanks everyone, this is brilliant. I have found the part at Eurospares for 350 English pounds (new), and QV can get me one for 150 (used or repaired).

Regarding driving with the valve jacked open: could there be a link between this and broken exhaust headers? It seems to me that an awful lot of people that keep their valve jacked open sooner or later end up with damaged headers. My Ferrari mechanic told me the same thing - he warned me about NEVER jacking it open, or else I'll end up with a big bill to replace the headers...

Anyway, this morning I fiddled with the valve, and I managed to move it up and down by hand. I then drove the car on a local country road, revving it hard in low gears. The noise seemed ok, no vibrations from the valve. At home my wife then stabbed the throttle a few times from idle to 5000/6000 rpm, as I checked the valve. It moved up and down perfectly. So perhaps it was just stuck (the car hasn't been driven hard for weeks) and moving it by hand has made it come loose.

So it's all good news for now...
