When trying to shift out of reverse and into first gear, after backing out of the garage for example, the effort required to push the gear shift lever out of the reverse gate seems unusually high. I have to really force it out as opposed to how smoothly it rows between the gates in all the foward gears.

Is this normal? If not, what would cause something like this?

If it is when it is still cold (meaning - not much time for the temp to make a move up). I would not be to concerned... (if it is happening when it is cold) - Next Time let it warm up for 5 - 7 minutes and then try it (look at the oil temp - once it is around 150 or so - then try it).

If it is all the time regardless of temp - you can have a linkage, lever alignment, etc. problem - might have to have it looked at.
